Argentina is not a country of stereotypes, as what they are globally known for—terrific football players, a warm sense of family, huge barbecue meat platters—are all things they are, for good reason, very proud of. Another thing that Argentina is happily known for is their constant proficiency to create incredible wines. With the calendar just turning into 2018, these 2017 award-winners are just getting better with age and should be on your “to drink” list this year.

Fabre Montmayou Reserva Malbec, 2016 by Bodegas Fabre S.A.

Like many of the Fabre Montmayou Malbecs, the use of French oak ensures that the wine is very fruit-driven yet not in an overpowering or dominating way. A subtle accompaniment to the Malbec grape and a terrifically well-rounded wine that will make sure, once it is opened, you will be seeing the bottom of the bottle.

Argentinian wine

Riccitelli & Father, 2014 by Riccitelli Wines

This Cab-Franc blend combines two dark-skinned grapes and this bottle combines two great winemaking minds, as Jorge Riccitelli and son Matias combine to create a very balanced yet complex wine with intense aromas as enticing as the colourful bottle it comes in.

Gran Medalla Cabernet Franc, 2014 by Trapiche

Another wine to watch out for happens to be another Cabernet Franc, and this Grand Medal wine is appropriately named, as it is an award-winner and a tribute to the 125 years of the Trapiche brand. Coming from a sandy and silty soil, this wine expresses velvety tannins, fruity hints of strawberry and darker hints of roasted peppers.

Winery, Cachi, Argentina

Santa Julia Reserva Malbec, 2016 by Bodega Santa Julia

One of the Argentinian specialities, the Malbec shines with this 2016 reserve that will present dark fruit aromas to the nose, light acidity, soft tannins, and a slightly spicy finish to the tongue, to complete a terrifically well-rounded statement that Argentina are still tough to beat with this particular grape.

Agostino Familia White Blend, 2014 by Finca Agostino Hnos. S.A.

This white blend comprises of 80 percent Semillon, with the remainder made up of Sauvignon Blanc, aged in French and American oak barrels for a full year. This creates an aroma of honey and tropical fruits, a creamy finish that is perfect to pair with any type of seafood.
