Danes love ice cream and they don’t mind savouring a three scoop-cone even during wintertime. As such, the capital city of Copenhagen brims with ice cream parlours that offer high-quality organic and even vegetarian ice cream in dozens of flavours.

At Jægersborggade, one of the city’s hippest streets, you’ll find Istid. This cute little ice cream parlour lives up to the area’s high standards and serves delicious ice cream made with fresh, organic ingredients and a bit of liquid nitrogen. We can’t tell you exactly what that is or what inspired them to add it into their recipe, but judging from how fresh and creamy their ice creams are, it seems like they know what they’re doing.

Paradis Vesterbrogade

With 50 Paradis ice creams parlours all over Denmark, it’s hard not to spot one while you’re visiting the country. In Copenhagen, Paradis shops can be found in Nørrebro, Vesterbro, Frederiksberg and more or less in every neighbourhood. Serving 16 different flavours of freshly made ice cream, it’s no wonder Paradis is a real favourite among locals who don’t mind waiting in a long queue just to grab a liquorice cone.

Ismageriet Amager

At Ismageriet, ice creams are made with the following ingredients: organic milk, chocolate that the people behind Ismageriet make themselves in France, hazelnuts, pistachios, and almonds from Italy. And that’s only part of the recipe that makes ice creams at Ismageriet so unique. Even though their ice cream parlours are located a bit further away from the city centre, locals don’t mind cycling to Søborg or to Amager to taste one of the different ice cream flavours, or Ismageriet’s popular ice cream cakes.

Olufs Is

Olufs Is is known for its original Italian-style popsicles – and that’s the only kind of ice cream you’ll find in their parlour in Østerbro. That means no waffles, cones or bowls. Nicecream serves 100% vegan ice cream made with natural ingredients such as coconut milk and organic cane sugar. It’s the only ice cream parlour that serves purely vegan ice cream. Both shops at Elmegade in Nørrebro and at Enghave Plads in Vesterbro are always packed – from the young to the old – so be prepared to wait a while.

Hansens Ice Cream

Every single ice cream at Hansens Ice Cream is made from organic milk, which is brought every day to the little ice cream shop in Copenhagen from a farm in Svanholm. The popular ice cream parlour is located in Store Kongensgade, at the heart of the city centre, and it serves 25 different ice cream flavours to locals every year from the beginning of spring until autumn.

Østerberg Ice Cream

Of course, the classic vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavours are always available for those who prefer to play it safe.

Is á Bella
