Colombia has become a popular hub for startups. With a large number of opportunities and access to investors, it seems more and more Colombians are revolutionising the world’s thriving startup culture. Check out this Top 10 list of the coolest new businesses.

Rappi

Rappi is a delivery service company that’s currently taking Latin America by storm. Rappi is an application where individuals can buy almost anything they like and get it delivered to their door. From groceries, restaurant meals, toiletries, alcohol and everything else in-between, Rappi offers plenty of variety. On its application there is a Rappi Favours section where individuals can request the company to do things like walk their dog, pick up laundry, drop things off and even help with homework. In this section there have been many strange requests: one person requested a Rappi employee to come to their home and be the fourth player on the Fifa video game. Today over 5% of Rappi’s requests are to draw cash out from an ATM and deliver it. Rappi is almost two years old, but has already completed over 2 million deliveries in Colombia and Mexico alone!

Mist is whipping up a frenzy with its unique take on creating traditional artisan ice cream. Mist creates ice cream from liquid nitrogen to order in 60 seconds flat. First established in 2016 with trolleys around Colombia’s streets and parks, Mist now has a store close to Park 93 in Bogotá and continues to explore expansion. All of this startup’s products are created using 100% natural ingredients, free-from preservatives and additives, and everything is prepared in a traditional way. Mist operates out of trolleys and a store, it caters for events and even delivers its products. Officially one of Colombia’s must-try ice cream phenomenons, this is a company that’s constantly expanding.

Viajala is a flight and hotel search portal with a difference. Viajala doesn’t sell flights or hotel packages, it’s simply a real time search engine that creates a simple, user-friendly search results page. With direct links to airlines and hotels booking pages, Viajala strives to offer a quick and efficient search site that compares the real prices of flights and hotels, and best of all, is commission-free. The portal is currently available in Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Spain, Chile and Mexico and has over 1 million searches a day. Viajala is changing the way people search for flights by eliminating doubts about price and availability when compared to other search engines.

Domicilios has officially changed the way Colombians order food forever! This popular food delivery application enables users from 23 Colombian cities order meals from a large number of restaurants and have it delivered to their home. Domicilios allows users to find their favourite restaurants and displays an appetising menu where customers can pick the food they’re hungry for. The app and and user-friendly webpage contains a large number of deals and offers from a variety of popular restaurants. Created in 2014, Domicilios is widely used all over Colombia.

Destino Bogotá is a travel company that creates, sells and provides day trips and breaks in Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena. Offering a variety of packages all around the country, Destino Bogotá strives to create unique tours like food tours, cooking trips, coffee tours and many other fun activities. Destino Colombia does it all – it plans, supports, books and carries out tours for customers while changing the way locals and foreigners travel the country.

Fitpal is a brand new way for people living and holidaying in Bogotá and Medellín to try out fun fitness classes. Fitpal is a portal that gives users access to over 100 individual gyms and exercise centres. For a fee between 120,000 COP and 200,000 COP, app users will have access to over 48 types of classes in over 100 locations around major Colombian cities.
