Perron

Realising the lack of Mexican eateries in Johannesburg, four friends teamed up and opened the colourful Perron, Mexican Appreciation Society, in 2014, in Illovo. Due to its popularity (booking is essential) another branch was opened two years later in Bryanston. Book a spot and fill your table with tapas and different margaritas (try the jalapeño and coriander version) and of course, tequila.

Salsa Mexican Grill

Salsa best Mexican restaurant

With four branches in Johannesburg in Bedfordview, Parkhurst, Pineslopes and Kyalami, Salsa Mexican Grill serves all the classics. They use traditional cooking methods with a healthy spin. Salsa Mexican Grill is the ideal take-out spot, plus it’s even better when dining in. We love their small plates, especially the jalapeño poppers and the Baja shrimp basket.

La Rosa Mexican Grille and Tequileria

If you enjoy a good tequila, this is the place for you. With more than 30 versions on offer, and a huge variety of cocktails, you’re unlikely to go thirsty. Patrons have a choice of delicious aperitivos, quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, tacos and more. There’s also the option to build your own burrito or burrito bowl (that’s a carb-clever version for the banters out there).

Mama Mexicana

Mama Mexicana in Maboneng is a laid-back, small eatery serving the best pulled pork tacos we’ve had this side of the border. The best part about Mama Mexicana is that the food is affordable, so you can have a true Mexican feast without breaking the bank.

Pablo’s Mexican Cantina

Pablo’s Mexican Cantina is the place to get your fill of live Mexican music. Fresh tacos, fajitas and burritos are prepared daily and ingredients are of the best quality – ensuring a delicious meal every single time.

Baha Taco

Baha Taco, Johannesburg

Baha Taco focuses on Mexican-style street food and uses only the best local, organic produce. They also prepare their own tacos using traditional methods. We recommend the tamales or beef chilli as both are fantastic.

Chiapas Rosebank

CHIAPAS eat mexican, Johannesburg

Chiapas has a basic menu consisting of burritos, burrito bowls, tacos (soft and crispy), nachos and salads – all freshly made. Situated inside the Rosebank shopping centre, it’s the ideal spot to pick up take away and prepare for a comfortable night in.
