Known for its picturesque beaches and brightly colored beach houses, Muizenberg is one of Cape Town’s most popular suburbs. However, Muizenberg offers a lot more than just scenic landscapes. The culinary scene here is just as vibrant as the painted houses and sands. From seaside Italian restaurants to intimate Indian bistros, this list will cover it all.

Blonde and Beard

Blonde and Beard is the perfect restaurant to sate your breakfast cravings. Well known for their strong coffee, Blonde and Beard knows how to start customers’ days off right. In additional to their coffee, scrambled eggs and toast, and various baked goods are not to be missed. Situated just meters away from the beach, Blonde and Beard is also the perfect place to take much-needed breaks throughout the day. Sit at one of their wooden tables, listen to their easy music, and enjoy the complementary Wi-Fi.

Bombay Chilli Indian Bistro

Bombay Chilli Indian Bistro is one of Muizenberg’s few Indian establishments. Offering traditional Indian staples, Bombay Chilli Indian Bistro is sure to impress visitors with an explosion of flavor. Try the butter chicken, garlic naan or the vegetable biryani for something different. Matching the warm food is the inviting ambiance of the restaurant itself. Guests will dine at candlelit tables while glimpsing the colorful artwork on the walls.

Tiger’s Milk Restaurant & Bar

Take pleasure in Muizenberg’s beautiful scenery while also having a delicious meal at Tiger’s Milk Restaurant & Bar. With large windows overlooking Muizenberg’s False Bay, Tiger’s Milk Restaurant & Bar is the ideal location to meet up with friends for drinks and a bite to eat. This industrial styled restaurant boasts long wooden tables, comfortable booths and rugged brick walls, while the menu touts burgers, pizzas and barbeque pork ribs to boot. Of course, don’t miss the chance to pair these entreés with one of their many beers on draught.

Casa Labia Café

Also located in Marina da Gama, Casa Labia Café offers gourmet Italian cuisine in a lavish setting. The Café boasts six dining rooms modeled in the style of 18th-century Venice, complete with chandeliers, intricate moldings, ornate wallpaper and traditional paintings. Visitors will feel regal whilst feasting on items from the Café’s seasonal menus, the likes of pan-grilled sirloin steak, melanzane parmigiana, or the always delectable soup of the day. Casa Labia Café is the perfect treat, especially since it has gorgeous views of False Bay.

Carla’s

With South Africa’s proximity to Mozambique, it only makes sense that one of Muizenberg’s best restaurants, Carla’s, specializes in food from Mozambique, with its distinct Portuguese influences. The menu at Carla’s is ever changing. Whatever is listed on the black chalkboard when patrons walk in is the menu of the day. However, Carla’s customers always know that her large peri peri spiced prawns will be on offer. They are nothing short of famous in the town.

Empire Café

Empire Café has been serving Muizenberg breakfast, lunch and dinner since 2002. Locals and tourists alike have consistently raved about this versatile restaurant. Empire Café’s menu is wide ranging, serving breakfast items like huevos rancheros, lunch specialties such as chicken wraps, and popular dinner entreés from gourmet hamburgers to fresh line fish. Pair each of these meals with their famous coffee, or one of their daily desserts and bingo!

The Toad on the Road

Priding itself on hospitality, The Toad on the Road is unquestionably one of Muizenberg’s superior restaurants. There are multiple outdoor patios for guests to enjoy their meals on while overlooking Muizenberg’s hilly landscape. Additionally, there is an outdoor play structure for children to enjoy, while parents can watch sports on one of the establishment’s many televisions. Share the nachos, stuffed jalepeños or Hawaiian ham and pineapple pizza with the whole table.
