Having a Moroccan hammam is simultaneously invigorating and relaxing. A traditional practice that has been an intrinsic part of local life for centuries, a Moroccan steam bath leaves you feeling fresh, clean, and glowing. After a busy day of sightseeing in Meknes, why not treat yourself to a hammam? Here are some of the best places to have a Moroccan steam bath in the old imperial city.

Hammam Zitouna

Mosque

Located right in the heart of Meknes’ medina, Hammam Zitouna is one of the oldest hammams, if not the oldest, in the city. In the neigjbourhood of Zitoune, the public hammam can be found behind the neighbourhood’s mosque. It is one of the most pleasant public steam rooms in Meknes, As with many hammams, it operates separate hours for men and women. Visitors will need to take all their own supplies with them, such as a towel, exfoliating glove, soap, and shampoo. You can bathe independently, or an attendant will give you a scrub for an additional fee. Massages are also available.

Hammam Jedid

Museum

Hammam Jedid is another historic public steam bath used by locals. It’s a great place for an authentic hammam experience in Meknes. Located down one of the medina’s narrow alleys, it can be found off Rue Dar Smen, close to Meknes Museum. Scrubs and massages are available. Remember to bring all the toiletries you’ll need with you.

Argana Hammam

Spa

Located within Riad Yacout, Argana Hammam is a small and intimate hammam. You will need to make an advance reservation if you want to enjoy a steam bath here; the property needs to ensure that the room is filled with steam and that a member of staff is available for the scrub and massage. This hammam is particularly popular with people who are staying at the riad.

Sherazade Center & Spa

Spa

A short walk from Attadamoune Mosque, Sherazade Center & Spa is a relatively new pampering facility, where visitors can enjoy a more luxurious steam bath. Soft scents fill the air and little touches, like fluffy towels and candles, help to add to the blissful atmosphere. While locals may find the scrub a little too light, the gentler touch is ideal for those visiting a hammam for the first time. A range of massages are available for after your cleanse, and visitors can also treat themselves to one of the enticing beauty treatments offered.

m Spa Meknes

Spa

An upmarket private spa, Meknes’s m Spa is located just off the major Acenue des F.A.R. and within close proximity of the city’s train station. While it is possible to make an appointment to enjoy just the hammam, it’s more common for people to book one of the various spa packages, which include a bathe in the hammam and a massage. Face massages, foot massages and sports-therapy massages are among the options available. The spa sells a range of luxury products too.
Whether visiting for a day or staying in the beautiful historic city for longer, have a local experience in Meknes with a trip to a hammam.
