Dialling in from the Atlas Mountains, Local Insider Fouad talks to Culture Trip about some of the highlights from our Epic Morocco trip that takes you from the bustling streets of Marrakech to the serene peace of the desert.

When Adam caught up with Fouad recently, the pair spoke about their shared passion for Morocco and delved into the exciting itinerary we’ve pulled together in the country. Fouad is originally from the Atlas Mountains; talking of his favourite parts of home, Fouad picked out the hikes in the mountains and the sand dunes of the desert as his top experiences.

There’s also plenty to enjoy in the towns and cities of Morocco, too, and our trip starts in Casablanca. However, the capital city Rabat is a lesser-known destination. ‘The beautiful imperial city [of Rabat] has a small medina with labyrinthian streets and incredible palaces,’ Fouad explains.

One highlight on everyone’s bucket list is the wanderlust haven of Chefchaouen. ‘The Blue City is beautiful with blue streets that are popular with tourists. We get to speak to locals and immerse ourselves in the culture here. We get to find out about what it’s like to live here, and that’s something you don’t get to do as a tourist.’

Fouad has also spent time compiling a fantastic desert itinerary that complements the city-based activities. This leads us into the mountains with a pleasant hike that will put you back in touch with nature. ‘We try to take you across every range of the Atlas Mountain,’ Fouad tells us. Spanning across North Africa, you won’t be expected to traverse the entirety of the mountains – but you will get to experience every type of environment that Fouad thinks is worth visiting.

Marrakech is the most popular destination in Morocco. The cuisine here is internationally renowned, and you will have already sampled many local dishes when you arrive here at the end of the trip. Thankfully, Fouad won’t let you leave without trying to cook some of the local specialities for yourself!
