When traveling, there are times when all you long for is a relaxing setting, to enjoy a delicious cocktail and a soul-soothing view. In Mauritius, thankfully, that isn’t so hard to come by. The island is home to hundreds of bars, each one better than the next. If you’re looking for that perfect spot to relax and rest your sore feet after a long day out, we’ve rounded up the crème de la crème of bars in Mauritius to do just that.

Ti Baz at Tamarina Golf & Spa Boutique Hotel

Boutique Hotel, Spa Hotel

A beach bar with straw roof and luxurious seating areas arranged on the sand looking towards the ocean at Tamarina Golf & Spa Boutique Hotel.

Like a pink diamond delicately secured on a tiara, Ti Baz is truly a level above the rest when it comes to being a cocoon of relaxation. It’s a confluence of amazing natural features – with a river crossing beneath, massive trees, azure blue sea, fine-grain sand, and African architecture to finish off the stunning canvas. Romantic sunsets, bonfires once a week, and a friendly staff make this place truly special. Give their signature tamarind cocktail a try, then make your way down the drinks list until your toes go numb. A larger bar is available on the wooden deck, with live entertainment under a canopy of tropical plants.

The Beach House

Cocktail Bar, Restaurant, Pub Grub, Seafood

It’s a hard task to pick a place on this stretch of Grand Bay, but The Beach House stands out. Located right on the beach, it offers mind-blowing views of the lagoon and an ambiance that’s ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring. Lazily sip on your cocktail, served with a classic mini-umbrella, and enjoy the sunset. As night falls, things get livelier, with good music and cheery crowds. If you’re feeling hungry, be sure to try one of their seafood dishes, or even a burger.

The Irish

Pub, Restaurant, Pub Grub, Tapas, Irish

The first and only Irish pub in Mauritius, The Irish might not be the first place you’d think to go to while on a tropical island – even less so considering it’s miles from a sandy beach or swimming pool. However, it has become a top choice in recent years, with by far the greatest setting when it comes to pubs. Other than Irish classics, it offers revisited tropical cocktails and food prepared by one of London’s Savoy Hotel former chefs. On weekends they have live bands, with a DJ taking over after midnight. Count on the customer service to make your experience well worth it and inch your way into relax mode!

Piano Rouge at the Address Boutique Hotel

A real getaway from the bustling touristy life, the Moroccan-inspired setting will win the hearts of many. Built next to an estuary, the Address Boutique Hotel witnesses birds, from as far as the South Pole, migrate to a delta at the mouth of the river. Taking its name from the red piano in the middle of the bar, Piano Rouge offers a stunning view of the horizon, with the emerald water matching the green foliage perfectly. Happy hour at sunset – on the comfy sofas, surrounded by the flames of petrol lamps – is pure bliss. Finger food is available, while dinner is served in the Italian restaurant on the neighboring terrace.

The Flying Dodo

Brewery

This gastropub has the specialty of brewing its very own amber, with a new batch every month. With a chic yet rustic interior, the Flying Dodo offers an unparalleled pub experience. Opt for the beer garden to relax, or head to the inside bar where you can witness the beer being brewed right in front of your eyes. They also offer ‘beer therapy’ – which includes, you guessed it, a bathtub full of beer – and have live bands on Fridays and Saturdays.
