Cycling is such an enjoyable sport because you get to burn calories while exploring and sightseeing, plus de-stress and bond with friends. In Kenya, bikers enjoy beautiful scenery and can meet with like-minded adventurers in cycling clubs such as Baskeli Adventures and Utalii Kwa Baiskeli. Here’s our guide to some of the spectacular places on offer for keen cyclists.

Riverside Park & Karura Forest

This is a great biking path from Westlands to Muthaiga around Karura Forest to the United Nations. The route is approximately 17 miles, but it also depends on the course taken. There are designated trails in Karura Forest for people to explore and it makes for a great Saturday activity with friends.

Limuru

There are many places to cycle in Limuru because the road doesn’t have many cars and the views of the tea plantations are amazing. This road also has some turns and sometimes it gets cold and misty during the cold months like June and July. Fog may impair visibility, so the best months are the drier ones.

Diani

An excellent way to explore the South Coast is through biking and it enables you to visit the village roads, where you are sure to meet other people. There are also private operators who hire out bicycles.

Watamu & Malindi

Just like Diani, there are many trails to explore the beach side trails.

Naivasha Biking Trails

There are so many lodges in Naivasha, and some of them hire out bicycles to people who want to explore places including Hells Gate National Park.

Muringato to Nyeri Hill

This trail takes individuals from the Muringato River to the top of the beautiful Nyeri Hill. The road from Muringato to Mathari has an excellent tarmac road, but after Mathari, there is such a steep climb. Bikers can use race bikes, but mountain bikes are the best for this trail which is approximately 6.47 miles long.

Other routes

Just like hiking trails, you can also discover your biking spots depending on where you live in Kenya. Choose a place where the roads are not busy and pick somewhere with a path that is safe and easy to navigate. Kenya has many beautiful countryside trails that people can choose from. Look for other cycling friends and discover new trails together. Other trails can be found in Kajiado, Muranga, Kisumu and Kericho.
