It’s tough to go away on vacation and leave your pets behind – they’re part of the family after all. It would be a shame to travel to the beautiful coastline of Galveston, Texas, with all its beautiful outdoor spaces, and not have your favourite four-legged friend along for the adventure. If you want to relax on the island’s beaches or stroll along Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, we’ve selected some fantastic hotels to take your pets on a getaway to the Lone Star State.

1. Candlewood Suites Galveston

You are most welcome to bring your favourite furry friend along to the Candlewood Suites. Once you have signed your pet form at check-in, where you promise to never leave them alone at night, you are plain sailing. The suites themselves are spacious and come with all the comforts of home, such as a well-equipped kitchen and cable TV. Settle in with your loved ones, for a home-from-home experience on this island.

Dog lovers can relax at the TownePlace Suites, a favourite with those travelling with their pet, even large ones. The staff could not be more prepared for you all. The hotel’s dog run area allows your pets the chance to stretch their legs to their delight. If the pet policy here is not enough to do it for you, the heated outdoor pool with a waterfall certainly will.

3. Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Hotel

This 100-year-old hotel is a real part of the history of the island and has a reputation that it dedicates to uphold. The spa and restaurants are of the highest order. It is pet friendly and will charge for your pet if it is more than 25lbs (11kg). The pet run is across the road, but with the Seawalk so close there is much to be easily explored on this incredibly dog-friendly coastline.

5. La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Galveston

La Quinta Inn has spacious rooms, a high-spec fitness center and an outdoor pool to enjoy under the sun. The complimentary breakfast is an American favourite of eggs, waffles, fresh fruit, coffee and juice. While pets at La Quinta are most welcome to stay free as long as they are 25lbs (11kg) or less, they must never be left alone in your room or make too much excessive noise. Good doggies only.

6. The San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center

This romantic and luxurious resort is most welcoming. The restaurant, spa and salon, two swimming pool areas, dog park and tennis courts all reach the levels of expectation from an award-winning hotel. Fees may be taken for your pet but they will be welcome. The villas have a hot tub and in-room spa so you will get a chance to indulge yourself.

7. The Villa Bed and Breakfast

Linda is the generous owner of The Villa Bed and Breakfast, a beautiful period house near the Pleasure Pier, and she loves animals. You would be hard pushed to find a more welcoming and personal touch anywhere when travelling with your pet. She prepares food, including the most hearty of breakfasts, with the same warmth that runs throughout your stay in her enormous pink house.
