In the foothills of the Tar Heel state, High Point is best known for its furnishings industry. This city in North Carolina is known as the “Home Furnishings Capital of the World” for its historic cabinet-making industry. Not only does it host the largest furnishings industry trade fair in the world, which has more than 100,000 exhibitors, it also attracts regular shoppers looking to kit out their houses. The city’s heritage is proudly celebrated with various sights, including the 10m-tall (33ft) World’s Largest Chest of Drawers, an ever-popular selfie spot, and the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library. It’s not just for cabinet-heads though. High Point’s history has made it a fascinating place to understand more about American culture, for example at the Museum of Old Domestic Life. Whatever you’re in town for, make sure you check in to one of these excellent hotels, all bookable on Culture Trip.

1. JH Adams Inn, for a luxury lifestyle

A jewel of the city’s uptown area, this 100-year-old Italian Renaissance-style mansion was built by hosiery mogul JH Adams ‒ and it still gives guests the feeling they’re being put up by local high society. Its 31 rooms have only the finest furniture (of course) ‒ Simmons mattresses are paired with Egyptian linens ‒ and whirlpool baths are available on prior request. Little complimentary touches ‒ from breakfast and bottled water, to bathrobes, wine and yoga classes ‒ have been engineered to help any guest feel at home, while the on-site restaurant, Cristina Gray’s, is a destination in its own right.

The rooms are spacious and clean, and have their own mini-fridges and coffee makers, while suites with sofas are available if you want to spread out. Breakfast and parking are free ‒ two more ticks.

Located 3mi (5km) from downtown, it’s surrounded by mall-style shopping options, and just five minutes’ drive from Oak Hollow Lake and its 18-hole public golf course. Breakfast at the on-site Starbucks, and relax after your day shopping or sightseeing in the saltwater swimming pool and jacuzzi, before a drink around the fire pit in the courtyard garden.

Another Archdale address, the Hampton Inn is great if you’re in town to get your mitts on a new wardrobe ‒ it’s within easy driving distance of two big furniture hotspots, High Point Market Authority and Furnitureland South. A Hilton hotel, it has clean and tidy rooms, free wifi and an outdoor pool. The daily free breakfast buffet deserves special note for a champion spread complete with hot course, cheese and berries.

We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet.
