El Jimador

El Jimador is a friendly restaurant specializing in Mexican cuisine. The interior space is decked out in Hacienda-style decor and sometimes features live Mariachi music, adding to the overall ambiance. Using original recipes and nothing but the finest ingredients, the kitchen team churns out enticing dishes from appetizers to burritos and tacos to fajitas and enchiladas. Share an order of guacamole and chips before feasting upon mains such as the tampiquena, or a skirt steak with an enchilada on top; chicken fajitas; or chiles rellenos de queso – Mexican peppers stuffed with cheese. Be sure to complement the meal with an imported beer, or a refreshing margarita (frozen or on the rocks) in a variety of flavors such as cherry, pineapple, and mango. El Jimador is open daily.

Fahrenheit Two Twelve

A fine-dining gem, Fahrenheit Two Twelve is open for lunch and dinner daily, plus brunch on Sunday mornings. Guests are greeted by a warm interior decorated with rich colors that add a touch of sophistication to the environment. When the weather warms up, take your meal outside on the lovely patio adorned with flowers. As for the food, you’ll find delectable options such as the signature baby back ribs served with soup and salad and choice of side – garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and coleslaw, to name a few. Other mains include the almond tilapia served with fresh berries and lemon beurre blanc, and the veggie lover sandwich brimming with fresh local vegetables. Pair your meal with a cocktail, martini or Long Island ice tea, with many flavors from which to choose.

Fat Burrito

DRMRW8 Hearty Chorizo Breakfast Burrito with Eggs, Cheese, and Hashbrowns

Following their passion, Ben Parades Rojas and David Heurtra De Jesus opened Fat Burrito in August 2012, delighting customers who enjoy Mexican food at an affordable price. The owners care about their customers and the ingredients that go into their dishes. Therefore, they procure only the freshest ingredients for their made-from-scratch fare. Plus, if you can’t find what you want on the menu, they will improvise for you (if they have the ingredients on hand). For something meat-free, try the ‘Fat Stuffed Pepper Burrito’ or the garden quesadilla. Meat eaters will enjoy the steak a la Mexicana, which is a skirt steak with a tangy and spicy topping of onions, jalapeño peppers and tomatoes. Fat Burrito is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Lincoln Carry Outs

Owned and operated by the Underwood family, Lincoln Carry Outs has two locations, with one in Gary and the one in Crown Point, which opened in 2004. While there is some seating inside and outside, the tasty sandwiches offered are also the perfect to-go meal when you’re in a rush. Some of the enticing choices include the turkey sub with a choice of toppings; the corned beef on rye served hot or cold; and the bunny girl with grilled ham and Swiss Cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomatoes all on French bread. Tasty side dishes include French fries, onion rings, broccoli bites, along with the soup of the day and salads. LCO is open every day from 10 am to 9 pm.

Lucrezia

Named after Lucrezia Borgia, Lucrezia is a charming cafe with two locations in Northwest Indiana. Specializing in Northern Italian cuisine with an innovative touch, the restaurant offers an inviting interior decorated in rich colors, enhancing the warm ambiance. Serving lunch and dinner daily, the cafe also has a lovely patio for when the weather is warm. The menus are seasonal – allowing the culinary team to use only the freshest produce – with tempting choices like the grilled wild Alaskan Salmon with lemon dill cream sauce. You’ll also find succulent pasta dishes like the three-meat lasagne; fettuccine alfredo; and sacchetti, or ravioli stuffed with porcini mushrooms and served with shrimp and spinach, all in a vodka cream sauce. They also have a wine list, specialty cocktails, and beer.

Main Street Cafe

A charming restaurant the entire family is guaranteed to love, Main Street Cafe is an eatery that you will want to return to again and again. Located in the Historic District within an 1896 building, the cafe has something to please every palate, as their menu is overflowing with over 300 menu items! People praise their breakfast options enough, which include skillets, eggs benedict, biscuits and gravy plus sweet options like pancakes. If visiting for lunch or dinner, you can try the stuffed tomato with tuna or chicken salad, the chicken breast reuben with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese on grilled rye bread and the Greek-style boneless pork chop with your choice of sides.

Schoop’s Hamburgers

Schoop’s Hamburgers may be a regional fast-casual restaurant chain, but it is so beloved that it had to be included on this list. Established in 1948 in Hammond, residents in Crown Point are lucky to have one of the 19 locations to call their own. The secret behind Schoop’s burgers are the ingredients; unlike some of the national chains, Schoop’s only uses fresh products, never frozen. The menu has a variety of burgers – from a single patty to three patties – that will suit any hunger level, but that’s not all. There are sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, soups, sides like cheddar cheese fries, and creamy shakes and floats.

Station 21

Station 21 is the brainchild of three friends, one of whom is a firefighter. Wanting to give back to their community, they decided to create a friendly ‘American Grill’ where friends and family alike could gather to celebrate the little things in life. A spacious venue, Station 21 offers a menu with both American and international flavors, ensuring that it will appeal to many tastes. Some of the highlights include the pot roast sandwich served open-faced atop mashed potatoes and smothered with gravy, bourbon-glazed salmon with mango salsa and the pulled Carolina pork sandwich. Visit this fun establishment any day of the week from 11am onwards.
