Gyro and Feta Fries

Chris’ Taverna

Thought to be one of the best Greek restaurants in the state, Chris’ Taverna offers diners excellent, authentic Mediterranean fare in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The dishes are colorful, tasty and perfectly presented. Popular options include chargrilled baby lamb chops, loukaniko sausage, shrimp salad, and, of course, the go-to gyro wrap. Incredibly popular, Chris’ Taverna fills up fast, so either get there early or be prepared to wait a short while for a table. Luckily, the staff is used to a busy restaurant, and neither the speed of service nor the quality of the cooking ever suffers.

Lake Worth’s very own Caribbean fusion restaurant, The Island can easily feel like you really are eating on the shores of St. Lucia or Barbados. Each dish is created lovingly and carefully to ensure that each flavor complements the others, each texture brings something new to the dish, and each additional color makes the dish more appealing to the eye. The menu tells you where the inspiration for each dish comes from. You can begin in Bermuda with a starter of crab and lobster stuffed portobello mushrooms; head on over to Trinidad for an entrée of sauteed vegetables in a curry sauce served in a flat bread with a choice of chicken or filet mignon; and then finish in Jamaica with coffee and pecan brownies for dessert.

Serving rustic fare in a charming and elegant setting, Rustico Italian Restaurant enables its diners to sample the best of Capri cuisine in Lake Worth. Like all authentic Italian restaurants, Rustico divides its menu into three sections: antipasti (nibbles), primi piatti (starters), and secondi piatti (entrées). For a light meal, opt for an antipasto and a primo; for a heartier dinner order a primo and a secondo; and for a special occasion order all three. Favorites include the homemade cannelloni filled with veal and Parmesan basil, the seafood linguine, and the braised bison shank served with risotto.

The Pelican Restaurant

Restaurant, American

One of the more unusual fusion restaurants in the city, The Pelican Restaurant serves traditional American breakfasts daily, but come Friday night it swaps the pancakes for proper Indian curries. A family friendly, beachside café, this dining spot has low-key and welcoming decor, complete with a couple of curbside tables perfect for people- and wave-watching while enjoying a fresh juice or mid-morning coffee. Fans of spicy fare will appreciate the Indian specials that regularly sneak onto the breakfast menu, with eggs nissa being a particular favorite. Elsewhere on the menu the omelets, pancakes, and even the lunchtime pizza are all said to be some of the best in the state.
