Berlin's Club Der Visionäre: Electronic Music By The River
If you want an authentic Berlin summer nightlife experience, Club der Visionäere is the place to be. Located in Kreuzberg near Treptower Park, it’s a rustic and understated bar sitting on the river in a small brick building. This is a place saturated with history, where in former times people tried to swim across to the Canaan of Western civilization.
The excellent music selection makes every event special. It’s chosen no more than two weeks in advance, bringing the best from the underground scene. Yet, it is best to wait for sunrise when the true Berliners come for their dose of clubbing-induced serotonin so that you can meet great people and truly immerse yourself in the ambience. You might meet someone with a fancy apartment in Mitte, asking you to join for an after party, or maybe you’ll end up involved in a conversation about the philosophical school of Nietzsche, debating whether “God is dead” or not.
Even if none of these things happen, you can lie down on the wooden benches and relax for an hour or so. Most attendees spend their time standing on the wooden terrace outside or sitting beneath the weeping willow that hangs over part of the club, taking in the good vibrations and sunlight.
In true Berlin spirit, a weekend can run from Friday to Monday without a break, and at Club der Visionäere, it will be a weekend well spent. No glitter, no sparkling wine — nothing fancy. It is a place visited by Berlin’s best weekend warriors, and now, you can join their ranks.
