North Shore Tacos

If you love fish tacos, you have to try North Shore Tacos in Pupukea. There are a number of different taco plates, including fish, chicken and shrimp, and every day a different fish is on offer that was caught right here in the islands. Make sure you call in your order or go during non-peak hours so that you’re not waiting in line for a long time.

Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

Probably one of the most popular shrimp trucks located along Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku is Giovanni’s, and for good reason. There are at least ten different shrimp plates to choose from, including spicy shrimp, lemon pepper shrimp, garlic shrimp and coconut shrimp. This is one of the most famous food trucks on the North Shore, and most tourists seem to know about it, so make sure you leave plenty of time.

Fumi’s Kahuku Shrimp Truck

Kahuku is famous for its many shrimp trucks, but none seem to have better spicy garlic shrimp than Fumi’s, a definite must-try. All of their shrimp are grown in aquaculture ponds and are always fresh. Each plate comes with many shrimp, two scoops of rice, pineapple and a salad. Everything on the menu is great, but the spicy garlic shrimp is particularly sure to impress.

The Elephant Truck

The Elephant Truck is a local favorite serving some of the most delicious Thai food on the island. It has many delicious options, but the most famous dish is the vegan pad thai with tofu. There are not too many food trucks with a vegan option, but Elephant serves up delicious food with a huge selection.

Impossibles Pizza

Impossibles Pizza is the only pizza food truck in Haleiwa, and it serves up many non-traditional pizzas. The food truck moves along Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa, so don’t be surprised if you see it in multiple spots in one week.

Leonard’s Malasada Truck

A famous Hawaii dessert is malasadas, and no one does them better than Leonard’s. Traditionally, it is a small bakery in Kaimuki on the South Shore, but the truck travels all over the island, moving from South Shore to the middle of the island to the North Shore. Malasadas are always the favorite here, but they have different island-inspired fillings to try every month. Haupia, or coconut filling, is the most popular choice.

Mayjah Grinds

Mayjah Grinds sits near the circle in Waialua. It serves up many of the most popular local plate lunches, including traditional comfort foods such as loco moco, laulau, hamburger steak and fish tacos. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try the local food – it’s delicious.

Mike’s Huli-Huli Chicken

Huli-huli means “to turn” in the Hawaiian language, and Mike’s serves up some of the best Hawaiian-style barbecued chicken on the island. There are many plates to choose from, but the half chicken plate with rice and mac salad is a favorite among both locals and tourists. Don’t forget to try their spicy sauce – it is sweet, tangy and spicy, complementing the smoky chicken perfectly.

Haleiwa Bowls Truck

Haleiwa Bowls is one of the most popular açai bowl restaurants on the islands. It uses freshly made organic açai sorbet topped with delicious tropical fruits, honey, coconut flakes and an array of different toppings such as spirulina, almonds and bee pollen. It’s a perfect breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert option.
