There Is Finally a Library You Can Spend the Night in and It's Amazing

Make your Night at the Museum dreams come true at the UK’s only residential library, where you can spend the night practically sleeping among the stacks.

Gladstone’s Library in Hawarden, Wales, is both an actual library and a hotel, meaning you can not only browse their 250,000 works in print but also enjoy the slumber party that bibliophiles’ dreams are made of.

Guests of the residence are able to hang in the library until 10pm, despite the 5pm official closing time for the general public. After checking out a few classics to take to bed, overnighters can retire to their Welsh countryside view rooms complete with bookshelf-themed wallpaper, free WiFi, free coffee and vintage radios.

Starting at just £63 ($84) a night, prices are about as friendly as the concept, but don’t expect a television in your room because you didn’t come here to dilly-dally with technology!

Free breakfast is served for guests in the aptly named downstairs Food for Thought cafe, which also offers afternoon tea on weekdays and a traditional roast on Sundays.

More than 30,000 books from the library’s extensive collection were accumulated by its namesake and former PM William Gladstone. What a treat his legacy is – the perfect spot to spend a chilly winter weekend surrounded by books, art and culture.
