Poznań is Poland’s fourth biggest city and was a host city for the 2012 European Championships. Most visitors base themselves in and around the Stare Miasto (Old Town) and it’s easy to see why. Colourful buildings, beautiful churches and swanky shopping centres prove this is one of Poland’s finest tourist spots. When the sun sinks and the moon rises, those who like a good late-night drink and party will be at home in this list of top-notch late-night/early morning bars.

The theme of Proletaryat revolves around Communism and its history in Poland, the bar has featured in a list of the best PRL Bars in Poland. Everything is reminiscent of Poland’s times under Communism, from the design of the bar’s interior to its menu and the introductory ‘manifest’ on their website. Luckily the atmosphere, extensive drinks list and vibe of the place keep you in a far more comfortable present day. Plus it’s very cheap for basic Polish drinks such as piwo (beer) and vodka.

2. Basilium Beer Spot, Poznań

Poznań is famous for its ice festival every December, which takes place in the Old Town Square. Nearby there are a few bars and restaurants that serve up a good drop of Grzaniec (Grzane Piwo) – the Polish Hot Beer. A great place to try it is Basilium Bar, which has over five types of hot beer and also specialises in craft beer. Get a cosy seat and work your way through their menu, which serves a decent drop of beer long into the night.

3. The Dubliner Irish Pub, Poznań

Poznań also has a few Irish pubs, but none as stylish or huge as The Dubliner, which has a dark interior with brick walls and Irish posters aplenty. Live sports are shown daily and include football and basketball. The hearty food menu has some Irish specialities intertwined with good Polish food. Beers on tap come from Ireland and Poland, and the whiskey menu includes a variety of Bushmills, Jameson and Tullamore Dew. It’s a great spot for a few late-night beers or whiskeys.

It can be hard to choose a favourite, but if you’re lucky enough to get a seat in Piwko Naprzeciwko Zakąseczka i Wódeczka, then you will have uncovered a great little spot. With Polish beers on tap, shots of vodka aplenty and a range of easy-to-drink cocktails, this is perfect for a midnight liaison. Those who love to smoke a bit of late-night shisha, chatting with friends and enjoying a late-night tipple will love Klub Galeria Shisha. Despite the name, this isn’t a full on Shisha joint though. It’s very often frequented by those who just enjoy a late night drink in a cosy setting. Yes, shisha is often consumed but there are plenty of tables full of locals drinking Soplica Vodka by the bottle and sampling a range of craft beers on tap. It’s an exquisite little venue which stays open until 2 a.m. every morning – longer if it’s busy.

Excellent staff, colourful walls (which of course feature replicas of Van Gogh) and a lively vibe ensure this pub lives up to all expectations. With a good range of beers on tap, a nice range of flavoured Polish vodka and no shortage of shots, it’s a great place for a group of friends to head toward the end of the night. Those popping in earlier will enjoy the atmosphere during live football matches, with staff always eager to chat in either English or Polish.
