Uruguay is the smallest Spanish-speaking country in South America, and is located between Brazil and the Río de la Plata, which is along its boarder with Argentina. The small and picturesque city of Colonia del Sacramento was the first town in Uruguay, and has had a long and turbulent history. The city has been declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. But Colonia del Sacramento is not just a tourist destination for its history: we explore the best bars in the city.

Barbot

Bar, South American

Barbot is Colonia del Sacramento’s first craft brewery, and it uses just the best quality of malt, hops and yeast for producing their beer. From the beginning, they have used old recipes to create a special taste adventure. Additionally, Barbot offers their guests Mexican dishes, pizza and regional titbits to accompany the delicious beer. It is the ideal place to enjoy, have a nice chat with friends and meet new people. On the weekend, it is very recommendable to listen to one of their live concerts.

El Drugstore

Bar, South American

El Drugstore is worth a visit. It is an authentic Uruguayan place, with a restaurant and living room atmosphere. It is perfect for having a tasty coffee in the afternoon and dinner a bit later, like fresh made seafood or a simple sandwich. In the evening it is also a bar, and attracts a lot of young and old people to drink. The reason for this is the special interior. El Drugstore is very creatively furnished, full of painted pictures by different artists, colourful chairs and walls. To top it off, there are also concerts by excellent musicians.
