1. Grand Pacific Hotel

Just five minutes’ walk from the main town and next door to the Grand Pacific, you’ll find Holiday Inn’s Suva outpost sitting at the water’s edge. Families will appreciate the large beachside pool, and under-12s stay for free. Dinner should be eaten poolside, where you can order wood-fired pizza from Bati ni Wai while watching the sunset.

With just six individually styled rooms, three garden cottages and an expansive villa, the Five Princes Hotel is ideal for those seeking seclusion. Whichever you choose, expect walls clad with local artworks and glorious views over the tropical grounds. 4. Colo-I-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort

If tranquillity is what you’re after, this eco-resort set on the edge of a lush rainforest should do the trick. The Raintree Restaurant and Bar serves local Fijian fare (such as the excellent fish and coconut cream ceviche called kokoda). Opt for one of the lakeside rooms to spot native birds such as the Fiji goshawk, golden dove and collared lory.

5. Tanoa Plaza Suva

Perched neatly above Suva Harbour, Tanoa Plaza Suva is a very modern option in the Fijian capital. All rooms are newly refurbished to an exceptionally high standard: think hardwood floors, neutral hues (with a dash of colour for personality) and beautiful vistas. 6. Suva Motor Inn

Sitting pretty in downtown Suva, this no-frills hotel is an ideal option for families with kids, thanks to the large outdoor pool with a waterslide and hot tub. When peckish, head to the onsite Waterfall Bar and Restaurant for a Fijian feast chased with a cocktail. There’s often live music playing at the bar come nightfall, adding to the buzzy vibe.

7. Novotel Suva Lami Bay

Fringed by palm trees down on Suva’s waterfront, this Novotel outpost is perfectly positioned to take in the city’s best views.
