The Best Thai Restaurants in Sydney

Thai food restaurants in Sydney are a dime a dozen. Trying to find a good one can be a hard task, but we have made that job a little easier by compiling a list of the city’s best Thai restaurants – from modern fine dining and industrial chic locations to assuming suburban settings.

1. Spice I Am

Restaurant, Thai

Don’t let the basic interior and décor fool you into thinking this place won’t impress. What it lacks in style it makes up for with incredible food. Although there are many other Thai restaurants in Surry Hills, none of them compare to Spice I Am. Here you will find all the popular Thai dishes executed successfully, like the pad Thai with big prawns with a tangy citrus flavour, and the tom kha gai coconut soup, full of tender chucks of chicken. Their signature dish, the incredibly spicy jungle curry, is another must-try.

2. Chat Thai

Restaurant, Thai, Asian, Vegetarian

Chat Thai has become a Sydney institution, operating for over 30 years now. What started off as one restaurant with humble beginnings has turned into a popular chain, with each location as busy as the next. If you’re looking for a dinner on the go, you will love Chat Thai’s entire menu dedicated to take-away. The menu has an overwhelming amount of options, but the best place to start is the grilled section, which includes dishes you can’t often find at most Thai restaurants, such as the char-grilled pepper and garlic pork ribs.

3. Khao Pla

Restaurant, Thai, Asian, Vegetarian

Khao Pla’s chef, Pla Rojratanavichai, worked at some of the best restaurants in Sydney – including Spice I Am, Ms G’s and Mr Wong – before opening his own restaurant. He has developed a loyal fan-base that flocks to his modern, black-and-white-themed restaurant with a buzzing atmosphere. The menu is full of stock standard Thai favourites, like curries, stir fries and soups, but, unlike many other restaurants, Khao Pla also has a short but sweet raw menu. You can order tender beef tartare with lime juice and chili flakes, as well as sea scallops with fresh lime.
