With so many chain restaurants scattered throughout Cheyenne, Wyoming, it can be tough to find a little independent eatery to dine at in this cowboy town. But rest assured that despite being few and far between, these little eateries do exist. We’ve updated A Foodie’s Guide to Cheyenne, WY: 10 Best Restaurants to point you in the direction of ten of these local gems.

Anong’s Thai Cuisine

For authentic Thai cuisine bursting with delicious flavours and a good splash of spice, Anong’s Thai is the restaurant of choice in Cheyenne. Owned by a Thai-expat, each of the dishes on offer are prepared the way they should be, without being Americanised to please foreign palates. Try the chicken satay, crab rangoons, tom yum soup and the panang curry for a more than satisfying meal shared between two. For those who prefer to sample a little bit of several different flavours, there is also a self-service buffet as well as the normal menu. Traditional Thai motifs adorn the restaurant walls providing the large room with a needed dash of decoration, and the service is second to none.

Bunkhouse Bar and Grill

Dressed up like a saloon straight from a Great Plains ranch, the Bunkhouse Bar and Grill is the epitome of the all-American eatery both in decor and in flavours. Diners should expect an abundance of steaks, burgers, fries and sides served quickly and in gigantic portions. A pleasing variety of draught beers and liquors are available perfect to sip whilst waiting to be served or drink as a digestive after a hearty dinner. Live music from the house band keeps the diners entertained throughout the evening and patrons are welcome to dance the night away if they so wish.

Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant

Bringing Tex-Mex to Wyoming, Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant is a colourful affair where everything from the chairs to the plates are painted in brightly coloured hues of pinks, greens and blues. Diners here can tuck into delicious plates of flavour-filled Mexican fare. For a healthy option order the tapatio salad: grilled chicken breast, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, onion, corn, whole black beans, avocado and a jalisco vinaigrette dressing. Or go all out with the enchiladas de jaiba: flour tortillas filled with crab meat, onions and spices, topped with green tomatillo sauce, cheese and sour cream and served with a portion of rice and beans. No one leaves Guadalajara with space for more.

A mixed taco plate served with an all-natural-flavored Jarritos Pineapple Mexican Soda.

Korean House

Diners can put their chopstick skills to the test as they tuck into an authentic dinner at Korean House. Slightly hidden away and certainly unique amongst all of the cowboy saloon-style restaurants, Korean House is an authentic little eatery run by a Korean family. Guests should be prepared for simple decor and a somewhat bland setting, but the delectable dishes are reason enough to visit. All of the most popular dishes can be made with tofu instead of meat for vegetarians (or anyone else needing a bit of a meat detox after a week or so dining on burgers and steaks) and the bi bim bap and the kimchi are both absolute must-tries. Cash only.

Paramount Cafe

Although not technically a restaurant as the food on offer is pretty limited, the eclectic range of teas and coffees as well as the rich atmosphere at Paramount Cafe made it impossible not to include it in this list. The only place in town to get a cup of bubble tea, this cafe also serves the best coffees, lattes, espressos, cappuccinos, frappes, hot chocolate, chai tea and hot apple cider. For those who are hungry, there’s a few varieties of sandwich, a breakfast burrito, bagels and a selection of pastries and macarons available. Live music completes the picture every Friday and Saturday, making Paramount Cafe a great place to hang out with friends or a partner for something a little different in the historic downtown.

R&B Breakfast Club

The go to restaurant for breakfast burritos in Cheyenne, the R&B Breakfast Club prides itself on its famous Rocky Mountain burritos filled with two eggs, hash browns, a choice of meat and topped with chilli and cheese providing diners with a spicy start to the day. Burritos aside, R&B also serves a variety of different omelettes, pancakes and French toast as well as burgers, sandwiches, anytime of the day burritos and tacos. An Elvis Presley-themed restaurant, the decor is retro and slightly wacky, providing a fun and entertaining setting for a tasty brunch, lunch or dinner.

The Albany Restaurant, Bar and Liquormart

Having been located in the same building since 1942, The Albany Restaurant, Bar and Liquormart has established a loyal following amongst locals as well as being a popular tourist spot over the years. Situated in the heart of Cheyenne, the restaurant affords a terrific view over the famous Union Pacific train station and can easily be reached from many attractions and hotels across the city. The cuisine here is typically American with an abundance of roasts, burgers, ribs, steaks and Tex-Mex dishes filling the menu year round, with a couple of seasonal specials rotating with the months. Take a seat in the lounge bar to enjoy a draught or bottle of beer or peruse the liquormart to pick out a fine after dinner tipple to finish the evening.
