Making the most of Fort Worth’s rich natural history, some of these attractions offer the younger generations a chance to gain a greater appreciation for the local environment, while others provide kids the opportunity to bounce off the walls or experience the latest in big-screen entertainment. Either way, there is something for the whole family to enjoy in Fort Worth.

1. Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

If you are looking for something fun and informative, try the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Situated in the center of the city’s cultural district, the museum offers a variety of exhibits to excite and educate kids and parents alike. Notable exhibitions include DinoLabs, which features some of North Texas’s homegrown dinosaur bones, and Tornado Alley, a heart-racing study of one of the world’s most dangerous storms.

2. Burger’s Lake

A firm family favorite, Burger’s Lake is the perfect spot to soak up some of that summer sun. With 30 acres (12ha) of pristine swimming, sandy beaches and picnic tables, the lake offers everything you could want from a day out with the kids. However, if you are looking for something a little more active, it also features several volleyball courts and a 20ft (6m) waterslide.

3. Fort Worth Zoo

Spend a day with some of Texas’s wilder residents at Fort Worth Zoo. Nominated as one of the best zoos in the country and with more than 540 animal species, this zoo offers a terrific chance for kids to learn about animal conservation and protection. With several programs, including Breakfast with the Beasts and Texas Nature Traders, there is so much to explore that return trips are a must.

4. Altitude Trampoline Park

Looking for a day out that will get the blood pumping? Look no further than Altitude Trampoline Park. Situated in North Fort Worth and boasting more than 30,000sqft (2,787sqm) of trampolining, it’s sure to send your heart rate soaring. Perfect for birthdays or large groups, the park offers both food and drink options for a quick respite or a lunchtime break. Comfortable clothes are advised, and each guest will receive safety socks upon entering.

5. Movie Tavern

This Fort Worth theater provides a great environment for kids and parents to catch up on some of the latest Hollywood blockbusters. With recliners as standard and a full-service, dine-in experience – a kid’s menu is available – Movie Tavern offers a superior cinema-going adventure. With reasonably priced concession tickets, this theater should be your first choice for a family night at the movies.

6. Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge

Spanning more than 3,500 acres (1,416ha) and featuring 20mi (32km) of natural trails, the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge provides the perfect place for kids to experience the great outdoors. Designated a National Natural Landmark in 1980, it’s integral in the preservation of Texan wildlife. With guided tours and programs running throughout summer, the center offers a fantastic education for kids in environmental welfare.
