Just east of Nashville in Mount Juliet, you’ll find this red barn situated on 11 acres (4ha) of farmland that serves as a rural pet hotel. In order to give each guest as much love and attention as possible, only a small number of pets are accepted at the kennel at a time. Inside the facility, there is a well-ventilated area dedicated to playtime, pet-approved television programs playing on the TV and gentle music to calm the animals at night. Once it’s bedtime, the cats and dogs are tucked away on soft pillows and bedding. Pets are allowed to have a toy or blanket from home in their individual kennel to provide extra comfort.

Since 2010, this pet resort has been providing its guests with five-star treatment. Each animal sleeps in a private luxury suite that fits its breed and size. Pet siblings may be boarded together or separately, but dogs from different households are not boarded overnight together. In order to help pets stay on their regular diet and avoid any health or allergy issues, the resort does not provide food for guests. It also requires guests to complete a two-part temperament test 48 hours before reservations are made. The resort does not accept dogs with arthritis or pets that have medical needs requiring 24-hour surveillance. In order to participate in the daycare program, dogs must be over 15 pounds. Those who are eligible for boarding will receive an elevated chew-proof bed, stainless-steel food and water bowls and a microfleece blanket. Not all boardings come with flat-screen televisions and webcams, however they are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Miss Kitty's Bed & Bath

Gina and Jimmy Huggins opened this pet daycare and grooming salon in 1991, naming it after their Pomeranian, Miss Kitty. After hearing stories of horrible boarding experiences dogs had with kennels, Gina and Jimmy decided to create an experience for pets that was loving, fun and offered plenty of ways to play. There are three styles of dog boarding, depending on the dog’s size and breed: Saloon Style, Euro Style and Big Dog Saloon Style. Dogs receive 15 minutes of snuggle lap-time per day and the 24/7 pet nanny spends time giving each pet the one-on-one attention it deserves. Clients can also watch their pets 24 hours a day via a smartphone or computer on the webcam located at the facility.

Both cats and dogs are welcome at this luxury pet resort. The climate-controlled facility has been in the Nashville area for over 40 years. It offers everything your fur-babies could want – plenty of time to play, spa treatments and bedtime stories. When it’s warm outside, the animals are even free to take a dip in the Lagoon Pool. Lodging for the cats and dogs is separate and each area has its own special features. The Lion’s Den provides cats with a 7-ft (2-m) climbing tree, a television, a private litter box and an animal-print bed. Fresh water and Nature’s Select natural cat food are provided. Dogs have luxury Garden Suites that feature views of the indoor garden and waterfalls, raised beds with fleece pillow pads and a private enclosure. Each canine guest receives a free tropical spa bath before they go home.

Not only are the staff at this pet hotel fully trained in pet first aid and CPR, they are also members of The Dog Gurus, an educational resource on off-leash dog play. Before dogs are able to board at the facility, each must pass a trial day with the staff. This ensures that each guest who stays overnight is well socialized and well mannered, since there are no private boarding accommodations. Dogs are required to participate in the off-leash daycare program from 8am to 5pm, leaving them ready for bed when the day is over. Each dog gets a raised Kuranda bed, along with food and water bowls. Owners are encouraged to provide bedding, treats and toys that might help their pets feel more at home. Additional services including baths, brush-outs and nail trims are available for an additional charge.

All of the luxury suites are built on raised floors with a quilt or Tempur bedding provided for each animal. Dogs can enjoy the calming sounds of an indoor waterfall from the villa suites, and have fun playing one-on-one with staff members or with other canine guests. Cats who are boarded at the resort have an active bird-feeding area on the exterior of the building as well as a private litter area and a 7-story cat tree in the common area. For pet parents who have concerns about leaving their animals, the facility has 22 cameras throughout the interior and exterior of the property and an on-call vet is available 24/7 in case of emergencies.

There are two boarding options for dogs when you reserve space at this kennel. Standard Boarding gives your pup 10-15 minutes of daily playtime, several potty breaks throughout the day, cozy bedding to sleep on and stainless steel food and water bowls. The Comfort Suites are more upscale, semi-private areas that offer a quieter environment with more playtime, upgraded bedding and daily brush-outs. This option is better for older pets or those with medical issues. For the cats who stay at the facility, accommodations include condos with ledges, daily playtime, soft bedding, a litter box (litter included) and stainless steel food bowls. All guests are given assessments throughout the day. On-site grooming is also available by appointment or arranged through your boarding reservation.
