Myrtle Beach, South Carolina‘s all-American seaside getaway, offers a cavalcade of distractions: 60mi (97km) of sun-kissed sands, an 87-ft tall (27m) Ferris wheel, the largest collection of American sculpture in the USA, and even its own dance (the swing dance known as the ‘shag’ was invented in North Myrtle Beach in the 1940s). There are more kitschy t-shirt shops, mini-golf courses, souvenir shops, and oceanfront restaurants than you can wave a wand of cotton candy at, too. But all that fun takes its toll on folks, especially those toting little revelers. Should you find yourself in need of a little downtime, here are some great hotels with spas to book in Myrtle Beach.

1. Island Vista, for beachside tranquility

The only oceanfront hotel for nearly a mile (1.6km) on either side, Island Vista’s privileged position in and of itself is enough to instill a bit of tranquility – neighborless beach resorts are hard to come by in Myrtle Beach. A plethora of spa services are available in the 171-room resort’s Oceanfront Cabana, including Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi, Swedish, hot stone, deep tissue, and couples’ treatments, and you can kick off your slow decompression in the hotel’s lazy river beforehand. Afterward, retire to your spacious suite, which can range from 1- to 4-bedrooms, splashed out in soothing Tropical British West Indies flair.

2. Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes, for a slew of rejuvenating treatments

Located at the north end of Myrtle Beach in a notably green area, this 405-room beachfront resort also benefits from peaceful surroundings, but it won’t matter once you wander into the Hibiscus Spa, where wellbeing briefly steals the show from the ocean views elsewhere on the property. Rejuvenating treatments such as facials, massages, body wraps, and skincare makeovers call on organic essential oils and plant extracts to work their magic while merging ancient healing techniques with modern methodology. The complementary health club access goes hand in hand with your wellness regiment, too.

3. Anderson Ocean Club and Spa, for the best spa in Myrtle Beach

The Awakening Spa at Anderson Ocean Club is considered one of the best in Myrtle Beach, specializing in anti-aging facials, therapeutic massages, and hydrating body treatments from its location on the fourth floor of the resort. In addition to the usual suspects, Awakening has also curated a wealth of couple and summer packages, including a Swedish Summer massage (with a coconut oil and aloe rubdown enhanced with rosehip and lavender) and an opulent two-person Aroma Sea Salt Soak. Contemporary rooms at the resort range from 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom suites along with single room studios – and are never more than an 18-floor elevator ride from pure spa bliss.

4. North Beach Resort & Villas, for some serious spa action

With accommodations ranging from a 7-bedroom luxury splash pad and private villas to rooms in its soaring, Vegas-evoking oceanfront towers, Southern sun-seekers of all ilks flock to North Beach Resort & Villas. However, those looking for inner calm and tranquility know the 17,000sqft (1,579sqm) Cinzia Spa is the destination of choice within this North Myrtle Beach vacation complex. A fully computerized TechnoGym fitness center, pilates studio, infrared sauna, cryotherapy chamber, and a Himalayan salt suite are just a few of the amenities on offer at Cinzia in addition to a massive list of specialized treatments often tailored to specific demographics (teens, couples, men, etc). There are even CBD treatments on hand – a great indication this spa is on top of emerging treatments and therapies.

5. Marina Inn at Grande Dunes, for in-room treatments

The Marina Inn is secluded away on the 6,600-acre (2,670ha) Grand Dunes Resort alongside the Intercoastal Waterway, so no direct beach access (it’s a few miles away), but oversized guestrooms and numerous self-contained amenities help ease that pain. Take the Coastal Spa, for example, which offers a full range of relaxation and rejuvenation services delivered straight to your room (as previously stated, with guest rooms starting at 435sqft (40sqm), there’s a lot of space). Massages promise up to 90-minutes of unadulterated unwinding while hour-long body scrubs will shake off years of stress from your skin – and you don’t have to walk to and from the elevator in your bathrobe to indulge!

6. Dunes Village Resort, for seriously relaxing coconut treatments

The Lost in Serenity Spa is located on the 2nd floor of the Palms Tower at Dunes Village Resort. Though it isn’t as fancy as some of the spas on this list, its Deep Coconut Surrender hot stone treatment evokes beach vacations of yesteryear. That’s when Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil was slathered on everyone at the beach, scenting the whole affair in tropical coconut overload. You can leave the kids playing at the on-site indoor waterpark, the largest in Myrtle Beach, while drifting away under the coco-scented guidance of your therapist. There are deep tissue, aromatherapy, and pregnancy-themed massages as well but those pale in comparison to being buttered up with warm coconut oil.

7. Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort, for family-friendly fun

A prime North Myrtle Beach oceanfront location, multiple pools, and the Splash! Waterpark make the 385-room Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort an appealing choice for families; and a $20 million renovation in 2020 means everything feels shiny, new and upgraded. The spa and fitness facility, Spa33 and 78Fitness, respectively, are also new but located behind the main resort property at the Landing at Kingston Plantation. The design-forward space evokes a white clapboard Caribbean feel and offers a full-service spa menu, often utilizing its own signature skincare line for treatments.
