Any place that is made famous for its food carts and array of microbreweries is a winner in our book. Within the sparkling West Coast city of Portland you’ll find international cuisine, cosy cafés at every corner, fun year-round festivals and stunning nature just begging to be explored. We got the skinny on hipster-loving Portland from our local insiders, who couldn’t wait to tell us some of the best things to do for a night on the town you won’t forget.

1. Hollywood Theatre

Movie Theater

If you’re a film connoisseur then there’s no better way to spend your evening than at the Hollywood Theatre, a historic movie theatre and a fixture of Portland’s film scene. This 1920s landmark turned modern movie house offers a mix of first-run features and old classics. They also host community talks with filmmakers and actors, movies in the park and year-round film fests. If you’re in the mood for some entertainment and some old Portland charm then head to Hollywood Theatre for a film, cold beer and a slice of pizza (they even have vegan slices). 2. Powell's City of Books

Bookstore

Consider yourself a bibliophile? If so, then a night spent at Powell’s City of Books will be a fabulous evening of literary curiosities. Going at night is truly magical, as the daytime crowds have left, and you have more freedom to roam around and explore this literary haven. Browse through the largest new and used bookstore in the world, but don’t expect to be able to check out all one million titles on offer. This unique Portland gem is sure to feed your literary soul. 3. Pix Patisserie

Patisserie, Bar, Dessert, Cocktails

No evening is complete without dessert, right? If your sweet tooth always comes calling in the evening, satiate its desire for sugar at Pix Patisserie, arguably one of the best spots in Portland. Located in the stylish Laurelhurst neighborhood, Pix is a little slice of Parisian heaven, dishing out airy macarons, decadent chocolate tarts and luxury chocolates, while also boasting an award-winning champagne and sparkling wine collection. Enjoy bubbles, sweets and a whimsically delicious evening courtesy of Pix. Recommended by local insider Madeline Churm

4. Portland Night Market

Market

Where else can you find an evening that melds together culture, food, music and art as perfectly as Portland Night Market? This unique event only happens once every quarter, and here you’ll find incredible products from some of the best local artists and craftsmen. Whet your appetite with special dishes and free samples from food vendors made exclusively for the event. Stroll under a string of lights as you support local vendors, find cool gifts and snap a few Instagram-worthy pics of your festive evening. Recommended by local insider Jordan Singh

5. McMenamins Kennedy School

Independent Hotel

Who knew that one of the coolest places to hang out in Portland would be an old 1915 elementary school turned chic hotel? On the campus you’ll also find a variety of year-round special events, as well as six different restaurants and bars. Catch a movie or spend the evening relaxing in the public soaking pools. At night, grab some delicious pub fare or quench your thirst with a craft cocktail at the speakeasy-style Detention Bar. Trust us: it will likely be your most memorable school experience to date.
