Mixing 1920s chintz with the bold color-blocking of mid-century modernist design might seem like a style recipe gone wrong. But, in this historic building in the esteemed 38th Street Preservation neighborhood, it works brilliantly. And that’s not just thanks to the building’s intrinsic architectural charm – the vintage furniture pieces, cleverly clashing fabrics (think mustard velvet curtains with mint-green skirting and teal velvet armchairs) and contemporary artwork all pull seamlessly together to make for an enchanting stay.

Due to its light-filled loft-style rooms and an eclectic collection of contemporary art, you could easily mistake this arty boutique hotel for a Manhattan penthouse apartment block. It may not be the Big Apple, but Oklahoma’s capital has plenty to sink your teeth into – the hotel is surrounded by Film Row, the Museum of Art and Music Hall. After a day of taking in the culture, dine on creative New American dishes at Mary Eddy’s Lounge, or rest your legs (and everything else) at the stress-soothing spa.

Is it the Colcord’s prestigious location inside the first OKC skyscraper, the modern rooms with Alexa-integrated tech or simply the fresh coffee delivered daily that does it for us? To be honest, it’s all of it. And, then, there is also the eye-boggling marble foyer, the vintage elevator doors, the wood-clad seating nooks at the FLINT restaurant – we could ramble on and on. Talking of which, the Myriad Botanical Gardens, just across the street, make for a gorgeous post-dinner stroll.

This blocky redbrick building isn’t much to look at from the outside, but step into the lobby, and you’ll be bowled over – by the bold use of brassy metals, dark chocolate woods and sculptural light fixtures. What this grand-scale boutique lacks in terms of location (it’s 15 minutes north of Downtown OKC) it makes up for in good looks – and first-class facilities, including squash courts, a sauna, a huge heated outdoor pool and the stylish Ember Modern American Tavern restaurant.

The Skirvin will charm the pants off of you. Figuratively, of course, with the exception of their lovely indoor pool that’ll tempt you to dip more than just your toes in. This boutique hotel’s stately 1920s exterior opens up to reveal a grand foyer of wood-paneled walls, ornate iron balustrades and sink-in sofas. Pop on a cup of coffee in your regal-feeling room, and slip into the champagne-toned bathroom for a luxurious soak before heading down to the Red Piano Lounge for a night of cocktails and live music.

Light fare and stirred cocktails at the evening reception at the Embassy Suites will welcome you to OKC. After a few more complimentary refreshments, receive just as warm of a welcome outside on the fireside patio. You’ll forget turning into your two-room suite but will certainly remember that free breakfast is waiting for you in the morning. Need something to hold you over until the next generous reception? Walk 1mi (1.6km) to Bricktown, and spend the afternoon eating your way through industrial-chic warehouse restaurants.

You can hear the Oklahoma City Thunder from Omni OKC – and you can see them, too, if you cross the street. You can catch an NBA game at the Paycom Center if you wish, but there are few other reasons to leave this beautiful boutique hotel. The views of Scissortail Park and the skyline from your room are worth gazing at while you’re all cozy in your plush robe. The terrace pool deck offers similar sights, though you’ll want to slip into something a little flimsier. Having a rejuvenating spa and half-a-dozen restaurants at your disposal, you’ll stay put at Omni.
