Chill Out With These CBD Experiences in NYC

These wellness-savvy New York establishments want to drizzle CBD – hemp’s healing compound – into your beverages and onto your tired muscles.

After living in the shadow of its controversial sister compound THC (the psychoactive chemical in cannabis responsible for creating that signature high), CBD is finally having a moment in the limelight.

Cannabidiol, as it’s also known, is proved to induce feelings of relaxation, which is probably why the city’s wellness scene has embraced the ingredient so enthusiastically. From CBD-infused cocktails to CBD-enhanced therapeutic treatments, here’s where to put a chilled-out spin on your Big Apple experience.

Eat a CBD brunch at The Butcher’s Daughter

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian, Healthy

It seems only natural that The Butcher’s Daughter, one of the city’s most adored plant-based restaurants, would pioneer a ‘CBD your dish’ option. Executive chef Richard Rea experimented with CBD-laced foods for a year and a half before finally introducing the ingredient at the restaurant’s Williamsburg location. In his expert opinion, the earthy flavor of the oil pairs best with the 7 Minutes in Heaven smoothie and the Stone Fruit and Tomato Jam Toast for that perfect sweet-and-savory flavor combination.

Attend CBD Saturdays at Inscape meditation studio

Yoga Studio

This esthetically impressive, tech-focused meditation studio in the Flatiron District gives attendees the option to deepen their practice on Saturdays with a dose of CBD tincture (a solution created by steeping a high-CBD strain of cannabis in alcohol) right before the session begins. Select the “enhancement” when booking, then curl up in the Alcove – a cozy room with webs of macramé draped from the ceiling – and zen out with a guided meditation.

Adriaen Block

Cocktail Bar, American

As of August 2018 Astoria can lay claim to the city’s first (and, as it stands, only) CBD-centric bar and restaurant, Adriaen Block. Chef Zsolt ‘George’ Csonka created a menu of hilariously named CBD-laced cocktails – both alcoholic (like the Stoney Negroni and the Rolled Fashioned) and booze-free Seedlip concoctions. There’s also a “munchies” menu of grilled meats and seafood served with CBD sauces and sugary desserts laden with CBD whipped cream.

When you book a massage at self-care spot Chillhouse there’s now a CBD add-on option. For an additional $15 your therapist will apply an anti-inflammatory CBD-infused balm to any tight, achy muscles requiring extra attention. Afterward, find a sunshiny spot in the cafe and try a CBD-laced chia pudding and hibiscus tea for the most laid-back afternoon imaginable.

Treat your skin with a CBD facial at Ildi Pekar

The CBD Vibe facial by celebrity esthetician Ildi Pekar aims to leave you feeling “physically and spiritually” relaxed. The one-hour treatment costs $400 and starts with a facial massage using 500 milligrams (a fraction of an ounce) of CBD oil to hydrate your complexion while also reducing surface inflammation that can lead to blemishes and aging. This is followed by a cleanse and exfoliation, LED light therapy, a CBD serum and mask and finally “Alkalizing Oxygen Therapy” – said to balance the PH of the skin and ramp up collagen production.

Hired by The James Hotel NoMad to create a special CBD-infused room-service offering, she developed a tasting menu and a selection of easy bites to help busy travelers unwind and get a good night’s sleep. Try the CBD meatballs or the tots with CBD ketchup, and finish with an ice cream sundae drizzled with a CBD caramel sauce.
