New York City has just about everything you can imagine. Baseball

New York Yankees

Established in 1901, the Yankees play in Major League Baseball’s American League East Division. The Yankees have won the World Series a record 27 times, most recently in 2009. They play their home games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

New York Mets

Established in 1962, the Mets play in MLB’s National League East Division. The Mets won the World Series in 1969 and 1986. They play their home games at Citi Field in Queens.

Basketball

Brooklyn Nets

Founded in 1967, the Nets play in the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The Nets, who moved from New Jersey in 2012, won two titles in the American Basketball Association in 1974 and 1976 before the ABA merged with the NBA in ’76. They play their home games at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

New York Liberty

Founded in 1997, the Liberty play in the Women’s National Basketball Association Eastern Conference. The Liberty have not won the WNBA title, but have four conference championships. They play their home games at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.

New York Knicks

Founded in 1946, the Knicks play in the NBA’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The Knicks won the NBA championship in 1970 and 1973. They play their home games at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.

Football

New York Jets

Founded in 1959, the Jets play in the National Football League AFC East Division. The Jets won the Super Bowl in 1968. They play their home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

New York Giants

Founded in 1925, the Giants play in the NFL’s NFC East Division. The Giants won Super Bowl titles in 1986, 1990, 2007 and 2011. They play their home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Hockey

New York Islanders

Founded in 1972, the Islanders play in the National Hockey League Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division. The Islanders won the Stanley Cup in 1979-80, 1980-81, 1981-82 and 1982-83. They play their home games at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

New York Rangers

Founded in 1926, the Rangers play in the NHL Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division. The Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1927-28, 1932-33, 1939-40 and 1993-94. They play their home games at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.

New York City FC

Founded in 2013, New York City FC play in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference. NYCFC, which began play in 2015, has yet to win an MLS Cup. They play their home games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

New York Cosmos

Founded in 2010, the Cosmos play in the North American Soccer League. The Cosmos, a rebirth of the team and organization that existed from 1970-85, have won the Soccer Bowl in 2013, 2015 and 2016. They play their home games at James M. Shuart Stadium in Long Island.

New York Red Bulls

Founded in 1995, the Red Bulls play in the MLS Eastern Conference. The Red Bulls, originally known as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, have never won the MLS Cup but have four conference championships. They play their home games at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
