The sheer size of Beer Authority makes it a great place to grab a few drinks with a larger group.

The Jeffrey is the kind of bar that every neighborhood wishes it had. This Upper East Side gem located under the Queensborough Bridge is a serious craft beer destination without any of the pretentiousness. The bartenders are knowledgeable about their brews, so don’t be afraid to ask them if they recommend a certain beer. There is an ever-rotating, expertly-curated craft beer selection, so a little direction navigating the extensive menu is helpful. While the rustic interior of the bar is a great place to pull up and watch a game, the best feature of The Jeffrey is their outdoor garden. The quaint outdoor patio with picnic tables and umbrellas lends to the neighborhood feel of the bar.

With 18 beers on tap and over 30 by the bottle, invariability is hardly a word associated with Bier International, Harlem’s first beer garden. Though the beer menu is heavy on the German beers, there are some great domestic offerings too, such as Bronx Pale Ale, Six Point Sweet Action and Doc’s Draft hard cider. The meat is supplied from local farms via the beer garden’s local butcher, Harlem Shambles.

If you’re a Hofbräu fan, Bierhaus is the place to be. This Midtown German bar has 24 draft lines that serve all Hofbräu beer. Though this isn’t a “beer garden” in the traditional sense, the ceiling is made up of giant skylights that flood the room with light and make it feel as if you’re sitting outside sans the bitter cold or unbearable humidity.

Houston Hall has a packed calendar of events and on any given day you can expect a DJ set, beer pong games, or a themed party. Something needs to fuel all the high energy this place exudes, which is where the bar snacks come in. The menu has ideal bar grub such as pulled pork sliders, spicy homemade potato chips, flatbread pizza and fried dill pickle spears.
