Wide sandy beaches and boardwalk thrills won’t cost you an arm and a leg in Wildwood. This New Jersey barrier island has its share of luxe accommodations, but oceanfront views, family-friendly amenities and short walks to the shore are available at wallet-friendly rates, too. We’ve pulled together a list of the best in show – bookable with Culture Trip – to make your beach easy breezy.

1. Casa del Sol Motel

Low nightly rates, plus a generously sized pool, multiplied by neighboring proximity to the beach and the Adventure Pier add up to one awesome weekend in Wildwood. Your room is within a skee ball’s roll of the boardwalk, so you’re never more than a few steps from fun. Keep the good times rolling with old-fashioned handspun milkshakes or malts around the corner at the Doo Wop Diner, before cooling off down by the pool.

2. Grecian Gardens Motel

The family-friendly Grecian Gardens Motel might be a 12-minute walk from the seafront amusements, but it more than makes up for it by being less than two blocks from the excellent Owen’s Pub and less than three from North Wildwood Beach. So it’s up to you whether you wish to spend your afternoon filling up buckets of sand or emptying buckets of beer. Since Grecian Gardens has already made wiggle room in your budget, we suggest you make time for both.

3. Aloha Oceanfront Motel

Say aloha to oceanfront sunrises with a hot cup of coffee in your hands. Relaxation is always on deck at Aloha Oceanfront Motel, quite literally. The sun-kissed oceanfront sundeck surrounds both an adult pool and kiddie pool, so your family can swim while you catch some rays. Leave the older kids behind to play in the game room while you and your partner step from the motel grounds to enjoy a romantic beach stroll.

5. Aztec Motel

Aztec Motel was made for lazy days on a relaxed budget. When you’re not nodding off by the pool, you’ll get your fill of ice cream, tacos, smoothies and coffee at the takeout restaurants on the block-long route to the beach. Need another break before you hit the sand? Take up a pew on one of the benches that line the boardwalk and slurp your Aloha smoothie while indulging in a spot of people watching.

6. Harbor Light Family Resort

With two pools on-site at Harbor Light Family Resort, you might forget that you’re only a block away from East Island Beach. This motel at the northern end of Wildwood is 2mi (3.2km) from the bustling boardwalk, keeping fun within reach but also offering a low-key stay. You and your kids will have plenty of room to spread out in the deluxe efficiency room with a full kitchenette.

7. Sea Gypsy B&B

Hotel, Bed and Breakfast

It’s near-criminal to call the Sea Gypsy B&B a “cheap” Wildwood hotel. Though their prices are quite comfortable, this century-old Queen Anne Victorian home is as elegant and inviting as a luxury hotel. From the complimentary full hot breakfast, bicycle rentals and bottomless wine or lemonade, to the daily chambermaid service, old-fashioned candy cupboard, and relaxing jacuzzi on the veranda, the Sea Gypsy is great value.

8. Brittany Motel

When the sun’s out on the New Jersey coast, all you’ll want to do is hit the water. And the Brittany Motel knows how to help. As well as boasting both a large swimming pool and a dedicated kids’ pool, the hotel staff are on hand with discount tickets to the Splash Zone Waterpark on the boardwalk. And with the Seaport Aquarium, Raging Waters Water Park and the Atlantic Ocean right across the street, you’re going to need a pretty big towel.
