Running through certain parts of Detroit is the Detroit River. Truth be told, it’s not the prettiest area of the city, but it has started to improve in recent years. There are, however, certain waterfront restaurants that make the Detroit River worth visiting. Here are the best.

Did you know – Culture Trip now does bookable, small-group trips? Pick from authentic, immersive Epic Trips, compact and action-packed Mini Trips and sparkling, expansive Sailing Trips.

The Rattlesnake Club

A beautiful venue situated right on the Detroit River, the Rattlesnake Club is a steakhouse and seafood restaurant. Truly boasting the best views in Detroit, both of the skyline and the river, the Rattlesnake Club has a great atmosphere and fantastic fare. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s known for some of the friendliest service and wait staff in the area.

Iridescence is located in the MotorCity Casino Hotel, and it’s a sleek, 16th floor restaurant with skyline and riverfront views. Aside from the view, the food is sublime and the establishment offers an ample selection of wines. Iridescence is also located in a prime nighttime area, which allows for greater options for a night out after dinner.

Sweetwater Tavern

A long-standing Detroit tradition, Sweetwater Tavern has been operating on the Detroit riverfront for over 30 years. Sweetwater Tavern is infamous for their marinated wings and sauces along with other American dishes. Sweetwater has the best wings in Detroit, and its location right next to the Detroit River make it a gatekeeper to Detroit.

Green Dot Stables

Situated right next to the Detroit River, Green Dot Stables provides American fare with a view. Green Dot Stables’ comfort food includes options like a barbecue bacon slider or dishes like poutine. Highly affordable, Green Dot Stables is determined to serve local fare to all who visit.

The Hudson Cafe

Compared to the other venues on this list, the Hudson Café is a cafe and diner that serves New American cuisine. This cafe is a walk away from the Detroit River, but it’s still visible from the downtown spot.

Joe Muer Seafood

One of Detroit’s riverfront restaurants with food even better than the view of the Detroit river, Joe Muer Seafood has been revived and renewed. Serving the classic seafood and steak combinations, Joe Muer is located in the Renaissance Center.

River Crab

Both upscale and casual, the River Crab is a lively riverfront restaurant that makes you forget you’re in Detroit. It’s attached to the Blue Water Inn, and it’s situated right on the shores of St. Clair. The kitchen prepares steak and seafood dishes, but the breakfast and brunch menus revolve around American breakfast.
