Settled in 1620 by a small band of pilgrims from England, Boston is one of the most historic cities in America. It’s also a place of innovation and medical research, as well as a hub for shopping, sports, entertainment and much more. It’s no wonder, then, that millions visit the capital of Massachusetts every year. Join the crowd and take a look at the best hotels near Boston.

Your Marriott points will work at this 150-room boutique property – it’s part of the brand’s line of small hotels, perfectly situated amid the cluster of retail outlets known as The Shops at Station Landing. Close to the Encore Boston Harbor Casino, it’s also walking distance from the orange-line T into Boston, for when you’re not too busy relaxing in the indoor heated pool. Guest rooms are simple yet elegant, in shades of black, silver and cocoa.

It’s difficult to imagine that you’re sleeping in what was at one time, circa 1927, the noisy, smoke-belching factory of the Ford Motor Assembly Plant. Like its sister hotel, the AC Hotel by Marriott Boston North, the Row Hotel at Assembly Row favors a color palette of black, silver and cocoa. All rooms are supplied with Illy espresso machines – and if you fancy a bite, the in-hotel La Cucina turns out tasty pizzas and pasta dishes in funky, blue-hued surrounds.

The Charles Hotel

Calling all fans of mid-century modern design – you’ll love this place from the minute you clap eyes on the lobby – a real head-turner, with its light oak paneling and low-slung leather couches and chairs. While you wouldn’t call the rooms huge, the minimalist furnishings create a clear sense of space. Public areas are filled with works from the hotel’s contemporary art collection. Be sure to find the antique American quilts dating back to the late 18th century.

EnVision Hotel Boston-Longwood, Ascend Hotel Collection

Located near Longwood medical area, the boutique EnVision Hotel is a walkable distance to Fenway Park, America’s oldest baseball park. It’s handy, too, for public transport, while world-class museums close by include the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum. Rooms are utilitarian, in subtle shades of grey and chocolate, with no wasted space. Meanwhile be sure to head out to Greek-food favorite Mama’s Place for dinner, it’s within easy reach on foot.

With five conference rooms and generously sized work spaces in guest rooms, this hotel is perfect for business travelers. But it’s not all work and no play – how better to switch off and unwind after a long day of meetings than at the rooftop lounge overlooking Charles River? Sip a chilled martini as you take in the glittering views of Boston and Cambridge’s buildings, before heading to Scullers Jazz Club on the ground floor or, alternatively, use the free shuttle to head into Boston.

Hotel Commonwealth

Handy for Fenway Park, this high-end hotel has an agreeable spring-fresh palette. Whether you’re in a sumptuous suite or a standard room, the look is smart gull-white and grey, with fruity splashes added by cushions. The amenities are terrific, too: you’ll have complimentary use of the hotel’s SUV, Egyptian-cotton sheets, pillow-top mattresses, down comforters and blackout curtains. There’s even a T stop at the front of the hotel for maximum travel ease.

Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge

Situated on the Charles River, with views over Boston’s skyline, this Hyatt rolls out business-smart, geometric furnishings in pale tones – that’s the look whether you’re in one of its sprawling University Suites or a simple Queen Bed with Shower. The location is perfect; between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – a 5-minute walk away, and Harvard University – 25 minutes on foot. If it’s warm, sit out on the Zephyr Patio for wine and cheese.

Porter Square Hotel

With a prime location on Massachusetts Avenue, just beyond Harvard Square, this natty little boutique hotel has petite and intimate rooms with floor-to-ceiling-windows overlooking Cambridge. Take advantage of the hotel’s valet parking and dine in at the restaurant, Colette Bistro, which sends out delicious French classics, including juicy steak-frites, coq au vin and crème brûlée. In fact, you won’t need the car at all, simply use public transport to get around Cambridge and into Boston.

KEEN TO EXPLORE THE WORLD?

Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
