Baltimore has had an incredible resurgence in recent years. The city, as it has many times before, is resiliently pulling itself up and preserving its past. Most importantly, non-profit organizations and art groups are also making sure that different communities and creeds unite to share the spirit of Baltimore together. Art and music have always been central to this city’s output – Philip Glass, Billie Holiday and The Orioles are just a few to have touched the world. The good times are definitely back in Charm City and Culture Trip have chosen a few of these experiences by night for you.

Washington Monument

Whether you’re visiting Baltimore or Chesapeake City, escape to a quiet Maryland B&B at the end of the day

The original Washington Monument is dedicated to America’s first president and comes alive when it’s lit up in splendor after dark. Situated at the very center of the National Historic Landmark District, visitors can also climb over 200 steps of the stair tower for dizzying views of the city from the balcony – in summer this is possible on Wednesday evenings. The interior boasts interactive screens detailing the local history and a gallery displaying a huge bust of George Washington himself.

The Metro Gallery

The Metro Gallery in the Arts District of Downtown Baltimore supports the music, art and film scene. Its gallery puts on shows for upcoming local artists, and the main music venue boasts a great sound system for the eclectic mix of musical groups that pass through the city. It’s a great place to come for a drink and make friends and also to catch artists in a buzzing environment making noise on their way up.

Baltimore Improv Group

Also in the Arts District, there is free comedy every night of the week at BIG. Improv is seen here as art by the community for the community. Through enthusiastic participation and education the group hope to bring togetherness to the people of Baltimore through comedy – this being very much the spirit of the people of this city made real. Settle back and enjoy a raucous show, or if you’re feeling brave enough, you are welcome to actively join in and take part yourself.

Spirit of Baltimore Dinner Cruise

A perfect way to see the urban landscape lit up by city lights.

Creative Alliance

In line with the changing face of Baltimore, a famous old theater has been rendered a community arts hub in the Patterson Park neighborhood. Free and ticketed shows are put on by local artists and creatives drawing on the rich culture of the city – building communities in a fantastic setting. The facility includes two galleries for contemporary art and a 200-seat flexible theater. Expect food, art and wild dance events all easily researched on their website.
