When Ray Charles sang ‘Georgia on My Mind’, he was almost certainly talking about a memorable trip to Six Flags Over Georgia – while not confirmed, we rate it’s highly likely.

This epic theme park, opened in 1967, has 11 heart-stopping – not literally – roller coasters, plus its brand new Hurricane Harbour water park. Just one look at the loop-the-loops and you’ll be left feeling dizzy. After all that exertion, you’ll need somewhere to rest and recuperate and we’ve curated a great selection of hotels for you – all bookable on Culture Trip.

1. The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta

Here, European glamour meets Southern hospitality. Of course, you’ll love this place – it’s a Ritz Carlton, after all – but there is enough of a Georgia twist on this stone-cold classic to make it a unique experience, too. The stately and sumptuous rooms – where modern meets neo-classical – have feather beds, marble baths with rain showers, a 55” HD TV and even a complimentary overnight shoeshine. Downstairs, you’ll find two restaurants, a café and a gym to work it all off afterward.

2. Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Lithia Springs

Just four miles from Sweetwater Creek State Park and a little more from the adventures waiting at Six Flags Over Georgia, rest easy knowing everything is covered at this newly built hotel. The guest rooms feature sleek decor and contemporary furnishings, adorned in restful pastels to aid a good night’s sleep. Hotel facilities include complimentary parking, a gym and lap pool and an on-site restaurant serving American cuisine for breakfast and dinner. All this is complete with signature Starbucks beverages and evening cocktails – not served in the same cup, though.

You’re just an eight-minute walk away from the Peachtree Centre metro station and 12 minutes from the World of Coca-Cola, too.

Since this is next to the world headquarters of CNN, here are the headlines: chic rooms with spectacular views, a generous choice of food and drink options, an outdoor heated pool and sundeck – along with a Coca-Cola-themed suite available – all connected to the State Farm Arena and Georgia World Congress Centre. This just in: the rooms are beautifully finished with tasteful elegance and the suites with park views are something to behold.

No, we won’t make a joke about feedback – we’re too good for that. But true excess exists in all areas of this Hard Rock iteration – with music as the central theme, of course. Your very cool luxurious room focuses on personalisation: use voice commands to play your own music, change the temperature or tweak the lighting. Amenities include a sleek cafe/bar, 24/7 dining and a rooftop bar where you can enjoy live music as you soak up the unparalleled views of the Atlanta skyline. The wonders of Six Flags Over Georgia is a little over a 10-minute journey on a good day.
