Known primarily as the home of the Washington National Cathedral, DC’s quiet Cathedral Heights neighborhood is also host to restaurants offering great brunches on the weekends. Here’s our list of the best brunch spots.

Town Hall

Operated by five friends with extensive knowledge of the restaurant business, Town Hall promises to offer patrons fantastic food and excellent service in a great location. The restaurant’s move in 2012 to a new spot just a block north was great news, as the latest situ offers a large outdoor seating area. Weekend brunch options include deliciousness such as apple fritters and blueberry flapjacks. There’s also an awesome combo of chorizo and eggs.

Chef Geoff's

This Cathedral Heights spot is the first venture of well-known DC chef and restauranteur Geoffrey Tracy. Cheff Geoff’s opened in 2000 and has been serving excellent meals to the neighborhood ever since, including brunch on the weekends. Stop by and try one of the staples on the menu, such as the country fried chicken and gravy. Cafe Deluxe

Another friendly neighborhood joint, Cafe Deluxe is just passing its 20th anniversary in Cathedral Heights. Customers can expect welcoming service and yummy comfort food, such as the southern breakfast sandwich or the steak and eggs dish. There are plenty of options for health-conscious foodies, too. Selections include Greek yogurt with house-made granola, toasted bagel and lox, and goat cheese and vegetable egg white omelet.

La Piquette

Take a trip to France without actually getting on a plane by hitting up La Piquette. The brunch is a pretty great deal: you get to pick an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The selection leans toward fresh seafood options, including oysters, mussel saffron soup and salmon. Dessert is perhaps the hardest choice of all. Though it’s hard to go wrong when picking between treats like a warm apple tart, fondant au chocolat, and a fresh peach donut.

A recent addition to Cathedral Heights, Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar is a Spanish tapas spot with sleek design features. During the weekend brunch, patrons have the option of the full tapas menu in addition to delicious breakfast items. The Barcelona Benedict comes with a Spanish blood sausage called morcilla, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

Twist Georgetown

Part of the Savoy Suites Hotel, Twist Georgetown serves breakfast each day which fuses classic American fare with rich Mediterranean flavors. At Twist, the bottomless mimosas are, well, bottomless. Brunch-goers can expect their glasses to be constantly re-filled without them even asking for more. Check out the waffle and omelet stations for some sustenance too.

Bruegger's Bagels

The story of Bruegger’s Bagels goes back to 1983, when Nord Brue and Mike Dressell founded a bakery in Troy, New York. Today, they have more than 300 bakeries in 26 different states, including this establishment in Cathedral Heights. Of course, the fresh bagels are the headliner at Bruegger’s. The dizzying variety of round doughy goodness ranges from classics like sesame and onion to more unusual flavors like asiago parmesan and chocolate chip.

Al Dente Ristorante

The latest project from DC’s famous Italian chef Roberto Donna, Al Dente Ristorante offers up cuisine typical of all the regions of the chef’s beloved home country. Al Dente even offers a fixed price brunch, a rarity for an Italian restaurant in the capital. Specialities include meatballs served “al dente style”, lemon ricotta pancakes, frittata with porcini mushrooms and Italian toast. Order a cappuccino and pretend you’re in the Bel paese.

Cactus Cantina

The weekend brunch at Cactus Cantina is not to be missed. One of Washington DC’s best and most popular Tex-Mex spots, the restaurant doles out fresh fruit. This goes along with an order of scrambled eggs served with a Mexican twist. There’s a plethora of outdoor seating perfect for a bright and sunny day. Meanwhile, the interior is decorated with plenty of fun and Mexican memorabilia.

Westchester Dining Room

Housed in the historic Westchester apartment complex, this Italian restaurant has been under new management since October of 2014. And thanks to the recent change in direction, a brand new Sunday brunch has been introduced. The vast dining room is located off the lobby of the building and has many interesting décor features, such as turquoise walls, coffered ceilings and mirrored columns. Oh, and the food’s fantastic too!
