This trendy and culturally diverse neighbourhood is well known for its nightlife, music scene and dining. Since 1970s Adams Morgan rapidly started to grow – at the time, there were around eight restaurants and today there are more than one hundred. Compared to “the closest thing that D.C. has to Bourbon Street”, the 18th Street in Adams Morgan on Thursday-Saturday nights turns into a vibrant and busy place. Check out the best bars we recommend to try when in Washington D.C.

Roofer’s Union

Located on the northern end of the 18th Street Corridor, guests can view the entire street from the large windows on the second floor dining room of Roofers Union. For those who prefer to spend their time at the bar itself, Roofers Union has two options, either the first floor with the zinc bar top and exposed brick walls, or the third floor covered roof to watch the sunset. Each Friday and Saturday night, guests can enjoy any of the 22 beers on tap or the selection of ale, bourbon, rye and scotch while listening to local DC artists perform live music.

Bar Charley

This chic bar is located in the basement of one of the many townhouses that line 18th Street, and features an outdoor patio for visitors to dance the night away. The modern bistro menu offers a selection of food from around the world, such as Korean barbecue chicken wings, ahi tuna tacos, poutines and curry.

Madam’s Organ

With a large mural outside of the bar, Madam’s Organ is the most identifiable feature of Adams Morgan. This blues bar offers live music and soul food every night of the week, and each Thursday, Madam’s Organ partners with a local non-profit organization to help fundraise and raise awareness for their cause. Customers satisfy more than just their hunger at this bar, they also have a chance to unwind, be themselves, and give back.

Jack Rose Dining Saloon

The Jack Rose Dining Saloon is a classy establishment that features four different style dining rooms: the dining saloon, the open-air terrace, the balcony room and the tiki bar. Each room has its own unique menu, but the choice of drinks stays the same. Guests have their pick from the extensive selection of domestic, international and irish whiskeys, as well as single malt or blended scotch and rare bottlings. In addition to the whiskey, they offer a wide variety of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails, and if you so choose, you can finish the night with a cigar.

Tryst is proud to say that none of their silverware matches. This coffeehouse bar and lounge provides delicious direct trade coffee drinks, teas and pastries in addition to a full menu of beers, cocktails and wine. From Monday to Wednesday, Tryst has live jazz music, as well as many other events scheduled throughout the week, from movie nights to college study hours. This is a perfect place for people who love coffee and beer.

Town Tavern

This two-level bar gives patrons two options on how to spend their night. The first option is the basement bar, which is set up like a tradition tavern with booth and bar seating, and handcrafted woodwork, while the upstairs bar features a large dance floor and a more high energy crowd. Both floors have several televisions to watch the latest sports teams while enjoying tradition pub fare like wings, burgers and BLTs.
