The passionate and eclectic community that makes up the Mile High City is reflected in Denver’s shopping scene. The city has several main shopping areas and even more small boutiques sprinkled throughout the city. Each neighborhood and store have their own personality, making it fun to explore the different shops the city has to offer.

1. Shop sustainably without breaking the bank

Sustainable fashion doesn’t have to cost a fortune. That is founders Brandee Castle and Sara Graf’s motto when stocking their popular boutique, Judith & Joe. The duo started their business out of a truck in 2013 and has since moved to a brick-and-mortar location in the Backyard on Blake, a multi-use development in the RiNo arts district. Every item in the store is ethically made or from sustainable materials, and most of the items are under $100.

2. Travel through fashion's best trends

Located in the heart of the South Broadway shopping district, known for its antique and vintage stores, Goldmine Vintage stands out. The store moved from Boulder to Denver in 2017 to introduce the city to quality vintage clothing and lure people away from fast fashion because of the toll it takes on the environment. Goldmine’s inventory is hand-picked by the owners and full of one-of-a-kind finds.

3. Discover locally made items

Fetch started as a pop-up market for local retailers and has evolved into a brick-and-mortar store in the heart of downtown. The store features a curated selection of goods from 40+ sellers, most of whom are local to the Denver area, offering everything from skincare, clothing and accessories to home and food items. The store rotates in different sellers, based on product and seasonality, so each visit offers something unique.

4. Seek out specialty beers

It’s no secret that Denver is a beer-loving town. The cities numerous craft breweries, taprooms and brewpubs are evidence enough, but Mr. B.’s Wine and Spirits brings something different to the die-hard beer lovers of Denver. Mr. B.’s wide selection of hard-to-find and specialty brews is impressive, and the friendly staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Their main location has been on Market Street downtown since 2009, and they recently opened a second outpost in Aurora’s Stanley Marketplace.

5. Gear up for all of Colorado's outdoor activities

Having converted the Denver Tramway Power Company Building from 1901 into an outdoor mecca, REI is nothing short of incredible. The 96,000sqft (8,919sqm) space includes a full indoor rock wall, a 200-seat auditorium, a cafe, bike test trails, a kayak course, and even a walk-in freezer to test your cold-weather gear. The store also has a full-service bike and ski repair, rental departments and a green roof garden.

Every Sunday, Old South Pearl Street comes to life with dozens of local vendors selling everything from fresh produce to t-shirts with on-demand screen printing. The market operates from May to November on Sundays from 9am to 1pm and is so much more than your traditional farmers’ market. The vendors range from natural beauty companies to resident artists. The local boutiques of South Pearl Street also participate in the fun by offering sidewalk sales, and there are plenty of delicious food vendors if you work up an appetite while shopping.

7. Read your way through Denver

Book enthusiasts will rejoice at this locally owned and operated bookstore. A Denver institution since 1971, the shop has an extensive selection of books, magazines and gifts, along with a coffee shop. Today, there are four locations in the Denver area, but the original LoDo location has the most charm. The staff is made up of avid readers who are ready to recommend a new novel or chat about your favorite author.
