Like its London namesake, Tower Bridge in Sacramento is designed to move, allowing tall ships to pass underneath. This fascinating piece of engineering is a vertical lift bridge, where the central portion is winched up, remaining horizontal between the two towers either side. Nearby, you’ll find some of these these top hotels in Sacramento, all bookable on Culture Trip.
On the other side of Downtown Sacramento is the Inn Off Capitol Park, whose name is all the locational description you need. Most rooms employ a crisp white and charcoal color palette and are decorated with photography of the California State Capitol. You can start the day here with a free breakfast, which includes cereals, fruit, coffee and bagels, then work off those calories at the small fitness center.
Over in Midtown Sacramento, the Fort Sutter Hotel is a popular, modern accommodation with a high-ceilinged foyer and comfortable, low-lit bedrooms decorated in royal blue and brown tones. The hotel is big on amenities, including Cafe Bernardo, which serves international comfort food such as pizza, burgers and quesadillas. Alternatively, cook up a feast yourself at the fire pit. There’s also a business center at this hotel.
How would you like to stay on the water in a traditional riverboat? The Delta King was built in 1927 and is now permanently moored up along the Old Sacramento Waterfront, overlooked by the traditional Wild West-looking buildings that first sprang up here during the California Gold Rush. The wood-paneled grand dining room makes for a romantic meal, and the forward section of the Delta King is occupied by a lively bar and grill. Rooms are surprisingly spacious and have private bathrooms.
If you’re traveling with your own vehicle, there are plenty of great hotels in the Sacramento suburbs that offer more space and better value for money, such as the Arden Star. This boutique hotel has a large outdoor pool and sun terrace, a small fitness center and spacious rooms, which contain a microwave oven, mini-fridge and coffee maker. Suites have their own separate living area.
Outside the city is the Lake Natoma Inn, which is on the waterfront in Folsom, surrounded by leafy trails. The picturesque grounds are strung with fairy lights and dotted with comfy outdoor seating. Some of the more upscale rooms have an electric fireplace, and the premium suite has a whirlpool hot tub in the room. The bar and grill is the place to go for Californian comfort food.

Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world
Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
