The chic resort of Cabo San Lucas is situated on the Pacific Ocean in the far south of the 1,000km (621mi) Baja California peninsula in Mexico. The desert landscapes are strikingly beautiful with their rugged mountains, rocky cliffs, sheltered coves and golden swathes of sand. Here, whales calve, turtles nest and the glowing sun sinks into the sea. Large hotels offer myriad rooms to multitudes of guests, but for a more intimate retreat, check into a Cabo Airbnb or vacation rental, bookable on Culture Trip.

This four-bedroom apartment, which sits by the golden sands of El Suspiro beach, has ocean views, plunge-pool terraces and a well-appointed kitchen. It also offers amenities you’d expect at a hotel: a large, shared swimming pool, spa, laundry service, cooked breakfasts and dressing gowns and slippers in the room. Kids stay free. Check-in times are late and check-out times early, so time your flight to maximise your stay – or have your bathing costume ready to idle in style.

2. Ocean-view condos with gardens and golf

Short-term Rental

There’s plenty to like about the Copala condo complex: bedrooms and living rooms come in contemporary neutral tones with splashes of ultramarine and red from modish wall art and there are soft sofas you can sink into. Expansive balconies with whirlpool tubs and ocean views overlook a bougainvillea-filled garden and onsite golf course. The beach is a 10-minute drive away but with a small pool at your base, you’ll always have sun loungers nearby.

3. A Cabo casa for the have and have yachts

Short-term Rental

Aerial view of a large pool complex with thatched cabanas, overlooked by palm trees and apartments – including Best Marina & Pool View, Luxe JR Suite in Cab – and adjacent to a yacht-filled marina.

This one-bedroom suite is part of a complex that surrounds a palm-studded, lagoon-style shared pool and overlooks Cabo’s yacht-filled marina. You won’t find a better in-town location: a swathe of seafood restaurants, bars and shopping centres are on the doorstep and El Farito beach a 10-minute stroll away. The apartment has a kitchen with an espresso machine – a great way to enjoy an early morning coffee while admiring the marina views from the terrace.

5. A Chileno Bay base with big views

Short-term Rental

Huge open-plan living area at Vista Vela 2104 3 BR by Casago, with neutral furnishings that include four sofas and two separate four-person dining tables.

This three-bed condo, sleeping eight, has big rooms in neutral creams and large glass windows overlooking the gentle half-moon curve of Chileno Bay. There’s a large rooftop sun terrace, gym and an infinity pool, shared with other guests. Golf courses and one of Cabo’s wildest beaches are 10-minutes’ walk away. It’s a half-hour drive to the restaurants and shops of Cabo San Lucas but top dining spots such as Pan-Asian Pitahayas are 10 minutes by car.

6. Suite stays with a bar and pool

This cheery collection of suites are painted on the outside in citrus tones as bright as the Cabo sun. Inside, they’re decorated in modern creams and light greys and come with fitted kitchens. Restaurants, shops and nightlife are in easy walking distance and it’s less than a 10-minute drive to fashionable El Medano beach. Rooms overlook a large shared pool with plenty of sun-lounger space and that all-important margarita-mixing bar. There’s also breakfast on offer each morning and a gym onsite, too.

7. A pool-studded party villa

Villa

This place is incredible value for money, especially when you factor in the wonderful views. Fold back the doors of the lounge and dining area to create a breezy, open-plan space with a stunning terrace and pool and jacuzzi overlooking the ocean. The serviced villa sleeps 12 and comes with five-star hotel-style amenities, including a daily maid service and 24-hour concierge (who can also organise a private chef for you). With tons of space both indoors and outside, this is the perfect spot for a group or a special occasion.

8. Authentic Mexican casa with fire pit

Guesthouse, Villa

Located a short way outside central Cabo, yet still accessible by taxi, this villa is a beautiful oasis away from the craziness of the tourist zone. The exterior is painted in hues of papaya, cobalt and fuschia, and the inside is decorated with traditional Mexican tiles, beautiful ceramics and fringed hammocks. Spend a day of lazing in the garden, engulfed in tropical foliage, or in the pool with a swim-up bar perfect for perching with a homemade margarita. A fire pit is the perfect way to immerse yourself in this Instagrammable airbnb

9. Opulent cliffside villa with wraparound sea views

Villa

This gargantuan villa with 180-degree coastal views has to be seen to be believed. With floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, you have an incredible vista over the horizon from almost every room. Sleeping 20 people in nine bedrooms, the villa has everything you could need: a gym, sauna, cinema room, steam room and infinity pool that seems to blend into the ocean. Plush beds, embroidered Mexican fabrics, mirrors inlaid with mother of pearl and colourful rugs provide just as much pleasure inside. Most rooms have wall-to-wall doors which you can open to can enjoy the sea air.

We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet.
