Swanky Polanco is the place to brunch in Mexico City – just don’t tell the equally trendy Roma and Condesa. Its upscale vibe draws a well-to-do crowd, so a pair of Louboutins won’t look out of place under the table. Still, you don’t need to dress up in your finest, there are plenty of casual places to eat too. Get your day off to a flyer – glammed up or not – with our rundown of the top brunch spots in Polanco.

Maison Belén

Sweets and pastries are the highlight of Maison Belén, a cozy-cute café with a picturesque terrace. The breakfast menu – mostly French – includes classic croissants and perfectly prepared eggs, plus a surprisingly varied list of teas and excellent coffees. Should you want Mexican, they do huevos rancheros, enchiladas and chilaquiles.

ENO

Can’t get a reservation at Pujol? Taste chef Enrique Olvera’s celebrated cuisine at his cafe ENO instead. It serves high-quality food exploding with flavor and supports sustainable producers. The menu is the reason to come; make your way through local breakfast staples: huevos rancheros, enchiladas and torta de huevo. There are dishes from overseas too, including a tempting selection of sweets and pastries.

Catamundi

Under para empezar (starters), the brunch menu at Catamundi lists three (pretty potent) drinks – your first hint this is the best boozy brunch spot in Polanco. You may not care what the food tastes like after a ginmosa – yes, that’s gin, fizz and orange juice – but if you do you’re well served. There’s a decent selection of sweets and pastries, plus brunch classics (avo toast and chilaquiles among them) and sandwiches. A stylish courtyard setting caps the meal.

Giornale Ejército

Giornale – a Mexican chain and health-food peddler – is an unmissable spot for brunch in Mexico City. There are more than 100 tasty dishes to explore – their outstanding breakfasts include international favorites, such as waffles, cinnamon roll hot cakes, and eggs prepared in all sorts of ways. But more importantly, the chefs are more than happy to prepare any dish you might desire (as long as they have the ingredients).

La Casa del Pastor

La Casa del Pastor opened in 2001 and now has four locations, one of which is in the heart of Polanco. La Casa is actually an upscale taquería, home to the best tacos in Polanco. But they also offer an authentic Mexican breakfast menu. In the warmer months, soak up rays on the terrace while enjoying your meal.

Café del Parque

Burger

Café del Parque dishes out fast but healthy food. With a relaxed atmosphere created by the friendliness of the staff and soft lounge music, it’s the perfect place to start a lazy day with a warm beverage and tasty Mexican breakfast.
