San Ángel has been likened to a quieter version of quaint Coyoacán, less frequented by tourists but with all the allure and charm of the more popular neighborhood, and its own tourist hotspot in the form of the Bazar Sábado. It even has its own claim to Frida and Diego fame, although it’s Diego’s house that can be found in this barrio. With this in mind, we’ve put together a list of the five best shops to stop by next time you decide to check out this up-and-coming neighborhood.

1. Happening Store

Store, Shop

Mexico City is the perfect place to find that staple piece you’ve always wanted
One of the most highly recommended stores in the San Ángel area is Happening Store. Stocking a selection of clothes by predominantly Mexican, local designers, this quirky boutique-style store has a selection of products from clothing and accessories to footwear and even furniture. As well as the ground floor store, the first floor also has a gallery that you can check out after purchasing or while you’re mulling over what to buy.

2. Velvet Oak

Velvet Oak is a store with several branches across Mexico City, including one in Altavista, San Ángel. In this store you can find womenswear that covers the three main bases; shoes, clothing and accessories. They have the latest trends and even some branded products, such as New Balance trainers. This isn’t the place to go if you want handcrafted, artisanal products, but if you’re just looking to shop it’s a great option!

3. Amorosa Pasión

On the other hand, Amorosa Pasión is a one-of-a-kind store situated in the San Ángel region of Mexico City. Easily recognizable for its purple painted façade and the hand-drawn angel wings that frame the door, this store stocks beautiful handcrafted goods and traditional Mexican items, such as shawls and jewelry. This shop could definitely be considered eclectic, but it’s worth checking out for its selection of Mexican-themed products.
