When you vacation in the capital of Canada, you know you’ll be busy. With more museums, galleries and parks than you can shake a hockey stick at, your daytime will be packed. It’s just as well that the city has plenty of hotels with gorgeous, plunge-ready pools. From condo-style retreats to grand limestone castles, these are the best hotels with pools in Ottawa, bookable on Culture Trip.

1. Fairmont Château Laurier, for classic Canadian charm

One of the original grand Canadian railway hotels, the Fairmont Château Laurier added a 60ft (18m) art deco pool in 1928. It’s still one of the most impressive hotel pools in Ottawa, with enough marble to put the Romans to shame. Service and decor are top-drawer at all levels, from rooms that overlook the Rideau Canal locks to the luxurious selection of suites. The Gold Level adds breakfast and snacks around the clock, plus an exclusive lounge.

2. Hilton Lac-Leamy, for lakeside lounging

For year-round swimming, this hotel makes a splash. In spring and summer, the impressive outdoor pool is the place to be, with views over the lake. When winter comes, retreat to the warmth of the indoor pools, where floor-to-ceiling windows let you watch the snow settle like icing sugar outside. If traveling downstairs for a soak sounds like too much trouble, you can always book a king room with its own whirlpool.

3. Lord Elgin Hotel, for a dive into art deco

An Ottawa institution, the castle-like Lord Elgin was built in 1941 and hosted Winston Churchill shortly after. An avid swimmer, Churchill may have done a lap or two in the 50ft (15m) three-lane indoor pool. Rooms and suites are decorated in earth tones with a dash of art-deco-inspired furnishings, and have baths with walk-in showers. If you’d rather be on the water than in it, boat rides on the Rideau Canal are close at hand.

5. The Westin Ottawa, for a soothing saltwater swim

It’s all about the view at the Westin, among the finest hotels with pools in Ottawa. Floor-to-ceiling windows can be found in every room and at the indoor saltwater pool. Rooms from the 11th floor upwards have views of Parliament Hill and the best seats in town for Canada Day fireworks. Enjoy a view of the Gatineau Hills from the junior corner suites, or visit the Ottawa Art Gallery and other major sights within walking distance.

6. Sheraton Ottawa Hotel, for fitness and finery

It might not have a fully fledged spa, but the 17-story Sheraton is perfect for vacationers seeking a fitness kick with a side of luxury. In addition to a wooden-floored fitness center, the Club Level rooms and suites come with marble baths, double vanities and mini-fridges for when it’s time to unwind. A dip in the heated indoor saltwater pool helps, too.

7. Cartier Place Suite Hotel, for a family splashabout

Perfect for families seeking an Ottawa hotel with an indoor pool, the Cartier suites have studio, one- and two-bedroom suites with separate bedrooms, dining and living areas, full kitchens and private balconies. In addition to the large pool, amenities include a hot tub, sauna, games room and an indoor children’s playroom. An easy ten-minute walk will take you to the family favorite Canadian Museum of Nature, or to the free tours of Parliament Hill.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet.
