Prince Edward Island’s Top Spots for Deep Sea Fishing
Deep sea fishing is popular all around Prince Edward Island, and you’ll find tour companies all along the Gulf of St. Lawrence (along the northern part of the island) and the Northumberland Strait (along the south). While mackerel is the most popular type of deep sea fishing, you can also try your hand at tuna and (later in the season) shark angling.
North Rustico
You’ll find plenty of opportunities for mackerel and cod fishing off the coast of North Rustico, located just minutes from Cavendish. This strip along the Gulf of St. Lawrence, extending to nearby New London, is arguably the most popular spot on the island for deep sea fishing.
North Lake
It’s not known as the “Tuna Capital of the World” for nothing! If tuna fishing is your thing, this is the place for you! Located on the province’s east coast, North Lake offers multiple tour companies and is a beautiful spot to spend a few days.
Georgetown
Enjoy a day of deep sea fishing at the mouth of Georgetown’s harbor. You’ll not only get the chance to fish for mackerel but also have the opportunity to haul lobster traps and spot seals! Located just 45 minutes from Charlottetown, this makes for a great day trip if you’re staying in town.
Charlottetown
If you’re short on time and are spending most of it near Charlottetown, you can still fit in a mini deep sea fishing experience. Island Boat Adventures offers group tours along the Charlottetown harbor, and you have the option of adding a half-hour deep sea fishing session to your excursion.
