The Best Walks to Take in Tel Aviv

Full of history, beaches and style, Tel Aviv is a perfect city to explore by walking due to its small scale and narrow streets. Check out some of our favourite walking trails to take in the beautiful, diverse city, alone or with a group!

Explore the White City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

In 2003, UNESCO designated a significant part of Tel Aviv a World Heritage Site for its unique collection of building designs in the spirit of the 1930s Bauhaus (international) style. Bauhaus style can usually be identified by its white buildings and rounded corners, which is what gave Tel Aviv its nickname, the ‘White City’. Explore these architectural landmarks in the heart of the city alone or in a group. Tel Aviv’s municipality offers a free Bauhaus architecture tour on Saturday mornings at 11 am, beginning at 46 Rothschild Boulevard on the corner of Shadal Street.

Stroll along the vibrant coastline

Whether you are visiting or living in the city, its beaches are something you really can’t miss out on. Walk from Jaffa’s old city and port all the way up to northern Tel Aviv, passing through the city’s packed and colourful beaches, where you can even stop for a quick drink or a game of volleyball and enjoy the Israeli sun and sea breeze.

Take an artistic tour of Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv offers a vibrant and colourful selection of art spaces, as well as street art, spread out across the city. From elegant galleries and exhibition spaces to a more gritty side of Tel Aviv, the area is full of alternative installations and graffiti art. Stroll along the galleries on Gordon and Ben Yehuda Street or tour the southern part of the city and the grungy neighbourhoods of Florentin and Levontin to immerse yourself in some local art.

Walk the trails at Hayarkon Park

The city’s largest urban park, Hayarkon Park surrounds a river that spans over 27 kilometres, mostly passing through the city. Walk along the river (which is not safe for swimming) and the park’s green walking trails and botanical gardens and find a spot to stop for a relaxing, healthy picnic.

Wander the streets of Jaffa

Tel Aviv’s most southern neighbourhood is one of its most culturally diverse and interesting ones. Mostly accommodated by Jews and Christian Arabs, the area is renowned for its (very) old architecture, its picturesque port, its bustling flee markets and surrounding bars and boutiques, and of course, its cuisine. Submerge yourself in the local atmosphere and wander the streets of Jaffa for hours without seeing time pass.
