Between Crosshill and Mount Florida train stations, this large Victorian house is home to a four-star hotel, bar-restaurant and stunning beer garden edged by big trees. Some of the 26 bedrooms are in an adjacent townhouse, but the booking site makes it clear where you’ll be staying. It tends to hold weekend events, which can be noisy.

Sherbrooke Castle Hotel

3mi from Hampden Park in Pollokshields, handsome Sherbrooke Castle is all red sandstone and crenellated turrets. Once a private baronial villa, it became a hotel just before World War II. You can book a room in the castle, the cottage or the garden suites – the hotel sits in extensive private gardens. There are 18 rooms and four event spaces, and as you might imagine, it’s often booked for weddings.

Dakota Glasgow

Boutique Hotel, Chain Hotel, Hotel, Luxury

This is a great city choice, 30 minutes by public transport to Hampden Park. The Dakota is a contemporary cube-like building on the corner of West Regent Street and Pitt Street, with 83 elegant rooms in muted tones. The basement Dakota Grill continues to soothe the senses and features an outstanding côte de boeuf over hot coals – veggies can opt for the likes of roast chicory or tomato and coconut curry.

Business Hotel

Where “play is serious business”, Moxy is a city centre new-build with playful touches like a football table and pool table in shared areas. Tech is at its heart – including ergonomic seating in a “plug and meet” area and USB ports and motion sensor lights in the bedrooms. The rooms are small, functional and super clean, and there’s a barista counter where you can buy breakfast. It’s 30 to 40 minutes by public transport to Hampden Park.

Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel

Hotel, Spa Hotel, Independent Hotel

Once the headquarters for the Royal Scottish Automobile Club, Blythswood is now a sleek landmark hotel in the city centre. Georgian opulence begins with the stone exterior and continues into the vast lobby, whereas rooms are more contemporary – though the suites have large original sash windows. The spa thermal experience is not to be missed, but you must book treatments in advance. Parking can be paid for, or the concierge will order you a taxi.

Native Places

Steps from George Square in the centre of Glasgow is this exquisite art deco building, housing 64 serviced studio and one-bedroom apartments. Reception is available 24 hours a day, and housekeeping is weekly for long-term stays. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, the Anchor Line Bar and Restaurant is on the ground floor – Anchor Line was the name of the original shipping HQ located here. The menu takes its maritime connections seriously: oysters, lobster and scallops are exquisitely prepared.

A one-time Greek Orthodox Church close to Glasgow Central train station, a major feature of Malmaison Glasgow is its vaulted ceilings – the Chez Mal Brasserie is particularly impressive. The 72 bedrooms vary from standard rooms to the signature suite, with more natural light in the higher categories.

KEEN TO EXPLORE THE WORLD?

Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
