Snap on a pair of skis, and slalom downhill like it’s the Val d’Isère, without ever leaving the Staffordshire market town of Tamworth, England. Stay the night nearby at one of the best hotels in the area, all bookable with Culture Trip.
The SnowDome is a large recreational indoor ski slope. It was the first indoor skiing slope in the UK to use real snow, perfect for brushing up on your snowploughs or learning to ski ahead of that big trip to the Alps.
The name Drayton Manor might seem familiar; that’s because it is part of the popular Drayton Manor Theme Park’s grounds. The hotel, just on the outside of Tamworth, is perfect for combining a trip to the SnowDome slopes with a similarly thrilling roller coaster ride. Rooms are decorated in warm tones, with Thomas the Tank Engine-themed bunk beds in the family rooms. Combo tickets include breakfast, room and entry to the theme park.
A few minutes off of the M42, the Appleby Inn Hotel is perfect for anybody who has their own vehicle and is looking for a night’s stay close to the motorway. This large inn has spacious bedrooms with plenty of useful amenities, including a work desk, mini-fridge and a large, modern bathroom. A full English breakfast included in the room fee adds extra value for money. During the day, hearty pub grub is available, and there’s an outdoor play area for the kids.
Cathedral city Lichfield is a great place to find quality accommodation during your time at the SnowDome, thanks to its proximity to Tamworth. The history of the city is immediately felt in hotels such as Best Western’s the George Hotel, which is housed in an 18th-century coaching inn, right in the city centre. Suites have elegant four-poster beds and floral wallpaper. Breakfast is included in the fee.
How would you like to stay so close to the SnowDome you could practically ski jump to it? The Holiday Inn Express in Tamworth town centre even has an icy blue and white design motif, which is melted by the use of wood tones around the beds and the desks and warm lighting throughout. The rooms have blackout shades for when you want to sleep in, and breakfast is included in your room fee if you want to fuel up before hitting the slopes.
If, after skiing or snowboarding all day, you want to return to a hotel that offers the best possible relaxation, Fairlawns Hotel & Spa has you covered. Rooms have a proto-Scandinavian style of textured wood and plush furnishings. The modern four-poster bedroom, with its free-standing bathtub, is perfect for a special couple’s weekend away, while there are a variety of suites for something even more romantic. The onsite spa has hydrotherapy tubs and a variety of treatments.
Chapel House is a fine-dining establishment first and foremost, with a distinctly personal touch owing to the property retaining much of its Georgian charm. A sense of the original 1728 building remains here, while more modern touches make the bedrooms cosy and understated. The property has a lovely garden and pond. Breakfasts are a highlight, with vegetarian and standard full English available.
Old wooden oak beams and a half-timbered façade at the Olde Peculiar reveal the considerable age of this pretty village inn. This modest bed and breakfast offering is of understated, comfortable rooms. A self-catering cottage is also available for anybody looking for a little more autonomy during their trip. The family room contains a double and a sofa bed, and a travel cot is available for anyone in transit with a baby on board.

Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world
Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
