Visits to Silverstone usually take place at top gear. There’s F1 racing to watch, track days to experience and a 2,000sqm (21,527sqft) interactive museum to explore. Fortunately, there are plenty of hotels nearby that can help you slow down at the end of the day. Lake views, spa sessions and dips in freestanding baths are all on the cards when you stay close to the circuit. Here’s our selection of the best places to book through Culture Trip:

1. Silverstone Golf Club & Hotel

It’s just a 10-minute walk from Silverstone Golf Club & Hotel to Silverstone Circuit. Despite being so close to the racetrack, the hotel is a peaceful place, fronted by the fairways of an 18-hole golf course and backed by ancient woodland. Every one of the chalet-style rooms comes with a veranda that looks out over the 18th hole. You can take in the views from the hotel’s roomy beer garden, too.

2. Whittlebury Hall Hotel & Spa

This red-brick hotel is a 10-minute drive from Silverstone. Race fans can return from a day at the track and enjoy a drink in the Silverstone Bar, where the walls are lined with racing photos and memorabilia. Apart from its racing links, the highlight of this place has to be the spa, which is home to a 19m (62ft) swimming pool, a bubbly hydrotherapy pool, and a suite of heat and ice experience rooms.

3. The Bartholomew Arms

Just a 15-minute drive from Silverstone, the Bartholomew Arms is a classic British pub. Inside, it’s all beamed ceilings, open fires and dark wood furniture, although the rooms are still modern spaces. Locally brewed beers and ciders – not to mention a menu of hearty pub grub – await guests when they return from a day at the track. On warmer days, the food and drink can be enjoyed in the beer garden, too.

This stone farmhouse hotel is swaddled in countryside, a 20-minute drive from Silverstone. There are just three rooms here: the Lodge Room, Rouge Room and Airfield Room, which features a freestanding bath and checkerboard floors. Whichever room you choose, though, you get access to a dining room (where a continental breakfast is served in the mornings), a drawing room with an open fire, a conservatory and a garden that overlooks Hinton Airfield.

6. Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone

Hotels don’t get any closer to Silverstone than this Hilton Garden Inn. It’s right on the edge of the International Pits Straight; some of the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies that look out over the circuit. Whichever room you choose, though, you’ll find arty racecar photos on the walls and lots of racing-related materials, like chrome and leather, dotted around.

7. Jacob's Plough

A 25-minute drive from Silverstone, Jacob’s Plough is a traditional pub that’s as cosy as its six homely rooms. It’s heated by a crackling fire in winter and there’s a small beer garden coloured by hanging baskets in summer. The menu, meanwhile, features classic pub dishes like fish and chips, burgers and steaks as well as a selection of grazing platters that you can order in batches of four or six.

This comfortable hotel has everything you need to bookend a day at Silverstone, which is a 10-minute drive away. It offers a wide range of breakfasts in the mornings – including The Works, which combines a full English and a continental. Its restaurant serves classic pub meals and rotisserie dishes in the evenings. Plus, its beds come with special Beaumont mattresses that help to regulate body temperature to aid a good night’s sleep.
