Bristol is consistently being voted one of the best British cities to live in, so, if you’re planning a visit, why not sample a taste of the neighbourhood vibe by renting a local apartment? There are many quality hotels in Bristol’s centre and surrounding streets, but there are also some amazing apartments to book, often in some of the most vibrant areas, with quirky creature comforts and easy access to the city’s best attractions, such as St Nicholas Market, Bristol Cathedral, the Hippodrome or the Old Town quarter. Here’s our list of the best options.

1. Paintworks Apartments

Named after the Victorian paint factory in which it’s based, Paintworks is much more than just a set of attractive loft apartments. This location characterises itself as its own district, with spaces for art, food, museums and more. Many of the staff at the complex live on-site and have created their own fascinating microcosmic culture. The five lofts available each have their own distinct look and feel, so you can pick the one that speaks best to your particular tastes.

2. Beech House

Bristol is replete with buildings dating back to the Victorian and Georgian eras, many of which have been repurposed as accommodation space. Beech House is one such example, a Victorian villa and mews building, which has been refitted into a 14-room set of apartments, ranging from full suites to top-floor studios. All are designed with a distinctly open-plan feel and offer great views across Clifton and the city reservoir. Sights such as the MShed and the SS Great Britain are within a 15-minute walking distance. Amenities include marbled bathrooms, Hypnos beds and Bosch kitchen appliances.

3. SACO Bristol – Broad Quay

Bristol’s harbourside is one of the city’s most famous landmarks, all the more reason to seek out accommodation on the edge of it. SACO Bristol has a few locations dotted around the city, but Broad Quay is of particular note because it directly overlooks the water. As if that wasn’t incentive enough by itself, this aparthotel offers a range of options, from single bed studios to full three-bedroom penthouses. Regardless of what you go for, you’ll find plenty of space, comfortable contemporary furniture, full entertainment systems and easy access to attractions – the Bristol Hippodrome is directly opposite.

4. SACO Bristol – West India House

For a more classic feel with the same SACO Bristol particulars, head to West India House. This Grade II-listed building sits on the Welsh Back, overlooking the riverside. It has 14 apartments available, with either one or two bedrooms. The Old Town quarter is within easy reach, and a short walk will land you in the city centre or Temple Mead. So, whether you’re in town for work or pleasure, you’re ideally positioned to get around. The apartments are outfitted with spacious kitchens, smart TVs and other appliances to make you feel right at home, no matter how long you’re staying for.

5. The Thistle – Your Apartment

This four-bedroom apartment is right in the heart of Bristol, owned and operated by the Thistle hotel company. The modern furnishing includes king beds and mirrored full-size wardrobes, as well as a large kitchen with marble countertops. In terms of surroundings, the O2 Academy, St Nicholas Market, We the Curious and the Bristol Hippodrome are all within a 10-minute walking distance. The apartment is on a main road, so perhaps not the choice for anyone who needs deep quiet to sleep soundly, but, if you don’t mind the bustle, this is a great option.

6. The Riverside Retreat – Old City

This one-bedroom apartment is an ideal option for singles or couples, with an additional sofa bed if needed. Set on the harbourside, within easy reach of the Hippodrome theatre, it manages to walk that difficult line between close to the action and quiet at night. There’s a large open common space with a big sofa, a workstation and even a washer-and-dryer combo for those intending on a longer stay. The Old Town quarter is right on your doorstep, making it easy to pop out to see Bristol Cathedral, the College Green or St Marks and, then, head back home to power down.

7. St Nicholas Street Apartment

Another option with an optimal central location, as the name suggests, this apartment shares a street with the famous St Nicholas Market. This apartment has a more rustic appeal, with colourful walls, plenty of artwork hung in the rooms and a cosy kitchen area. Once again, you’re located within easy reach of all of Bristol’s most well-known attractions as well as within a short driving distance of Bristol International Airport. Housekeeping is offered here as well, so you can match the autonomous appeal of an apartment with the serviced comfort of a hotel.
