Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been family-owned and operated since it was founded in 1896, and it’s still one of Britain’s favourite amusement parks today, thanks to a full hand of rushing, roaring rides. From the top of Britain’s tallest rollercoaster – the Big One – you can see right across Blackpool, from the beachfront hotels and sidestreet B&Bs to the broad, blonde sands and the light-up spire of Blackpool Tower. You might even spot one of the great places to stay below – bookable on Culture Trip.

1. Number One South Beach

Just a whisper from the sands of South Beach, Number One looks old-school from the outside, but inside is all Egyptian cotton, Siberian goose down and bold wallpapers in confident colours, mirrored by the bedspreads and upholstery. It’s not understated, but it’s certainly stylish, and the location is extremely convenient for Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

2. Blackpool FC Hotel

You don’t have to be a football fan to stay in this fun-filled hotel inside the home ground of Blackpool Football Club, but if you are, you can enjoy eye-in-the-sky views of the pitch from some of the burgundy-hued rooms and suites. If not, you’ve still found a handy location for Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the seafront. There are more pitch views from the Corner Flag restaurant, and a spa to work off the excitement of a last-minute winner.

3. Big Blue Hotel

If you’re looking for a big, blue hotel that’s close enough to Blackpool Pleasure Beach to hear the whoops from the Big Dipper, look no further. Big Blue is vaguely Nordic from the outside; inside, big, comfy rooms are aimed firmly at families, with extra bunkbeds for kids and fairground prints on the walls. There are also more refined rooms swaddled in Designers Guild fabrics, perfect for couples seeking a romantic experience after a day on the rollercoasters.

5. Redstone Guest House

This well-regarded guesthouse is just a block from the sand. Expect a warm welcome and stylish B&B rooms with subtle colour schemes that match the artworks on the walls. Beds are soft and sleep-inducing, linen is crisp and freshly laundered, and communal spaces are dotted with attractive mahogany furniture, including a grand piano that dominates the breakfast room. You might recognise the place as a past winner of Channel 4’s Four in a Bed B&B show.

6. Number One St Luke's

In a quiet, residential setting, a few blocks inland from the seafront hubbub, Number One St Luke’s hides some sparky design behind its house-next-door facade. Rooms are full of vintage packing cases that surround flowery Rococo bedsteads, and some also contain spa baths. Better yet, there’s a hot tub in the garden, screened from the outside world by immaculately trimmed hedges.

7. Hampton by Hilton Blackpool

Chain Hotel

A glass-covered oblong facing the seafront, Hampton by Hilton is all about the views towards the prom. Understated rooms in silvery greys have enormous floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the sea, with the bright lights of Blackpool Pleasure Beach just one street to the north. It’s close by, but far enough to ensure that the screams won’t keep you from your slumber.

8. ART B&B

Bed and Breakfast

Every room at this creative guesthouse leaves you feeling like you’re tumbling into a piece of modern art. Geometric shapes cascade down the walls and ceilings, while drawn-on mirrors, neon installations and signs evoke vintage fairgrounds. The suites take things a step further, with in-room cocktail bars and movie projectors for private cinema screenings. With the seafront location on top, it’s quite a package.
