Brighton’s bohemian charm may make it seem like more of an adult’s playground, but the seaside city attracts many families thanks to its relaxing atmosphere and endless family friendly activities. Whether you dream of strolling the pier, grabbing some ice cream or just letting the kids splash in the sea, read what Culture Trip’s local insiders recommend doing with the family in Brighton.

1. Volk’s Electric Railway

Does your child have a fascination with trains? If so, check out the oldest continuously running electric railway in the world. Volk’s Electric Railway, built in 1883, runs the length of Brighton’s 1.6km (1mi) seafront regularly from March to October. You’ll also find the station playing host to a variety of special events. Hop on board and visit the town’s other seaside stations, where you can see how the railway team maintains these train carriages, or visit the aquarium near Brighton Palace Pier. 2. Globalls

Sports Center

Minigolf in Brighton has received a mini makeover, and the experience is truly magical. Just as you may be able to guess from the name, Globalls is an indoor minigolf course played under ultraviolet light. Putt your way through all 12 holes while wandering around glowing dinosaurs and safari animals at its Jurassic and Tropicana Glogolf. This will be a winner with the kids and the big kids in your family. Recommended by local insider Clare Scott

3. Upside Down House

Yes, this is just how it sounds: this topsy-turvy, turquoise house on the Brighton seafront is upside down. Wander inside the quirky family attraction where you’ll find all the standard rooms and features of a normal house – a bathroom, kitchen, living room, bedroom and even a kids’ play area – just flipped upside down. You’ll find wooden floors on the ceiling and furniture hanging from above. Don’t forget to bring the camera, as this is the perfect place for some creative and zany family photo ops. The famous Brighton Palace Pier offers hours of family friendly games, activities, rides and restaurants. Try your luck at the arcade games, or take a classic ride on the carousel. Thrillseekers will love the Turbo Coaster, the Booster and Crazy Mouse rollercoaster. Grab traditional amusement park concession favourites such as hotdogs and pizza, or dine at one of its three restaurants. The Brighton Palace Pier is also within walking distance of other popular attractions, including SEA LIFE Brighton, the Brighton Zip and the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
